For being such knowledgable indie folk, you guys sure know how to miss the boat. The Constantines are, in my opinion, one of the best bands in the world. With all the love for Okkervil River and Spoon, both of which are quite good, I can't believe there is such a lack of love for this band, as they are much better than both of those. Anyways, maybe it's just me. The Cons are one of those rare bands that never sound contrived or pretentious, yet they always seem poised to "define a generation".
I actually just started getting into Tournament of Hearts, and I've got to say that I've been very impressed by it - I can't believe that it's taken me this long to listen to them. I'm not sure that they're better than Spoon, though. Spoon are pretty much the epitome of awesome.
Anyways... on the actual topic of this thread, I haven't heard their new one yet, but I'll let you know when I do.
"Kensington Heights" could finally break this band. I don't know if it's their best, but it is quite, quite good. But then, all their albums are. The Constantines aren't a band that can be fully absorbed on one listen. Their music will resonate with you with time. Their songs are so often inspired, and a big part of what makes them sound massive is Bryan Webb's poetic brilliance. They are one of the few bands where the words can actually enhance the song and make it come alive. Bryan Webb has always seemed poised to have that "voice of a generation" cliche attached to him. I can't wait to see them live again
Hate to debate which album is better, but I will say that Kensington Heights is a really strong record. For those who want a taste other than Hard Feelings, the Canada iTunes Store is selling Trans Canada - which I suppose is the second single. Also on there is a cover of Islands in the Stream w/ Feist - which should be interesting.

I saw some of Feist's set at a festival recently. The guitarist started playing the riff from Nighttime/Anytime. I got really excited for a second, then remembered I was watching Feist and got bored and left. With a mysterious desire to purchase an ipod.

Not to get prematurely excited, but this could be their best yet. Lots of really great songs on this record. I liked Shine a Light a lot, and it had a harder punk edge to it, which I'm always in favor of, but these are just solid songs.
