This is a link to a text document list, all of the complete albums and EPs I have decided I either like enough or are essential enough to keep on my computer. 799 all told, about 2% EPs, the rest complete albums. It's still pretty much limited to "stuff I know all the words to." Believe it or not, dripley.
Whichever link is least annoying. (probably the last one)
I am an actual music nerd who is completely obsessed, and I think that all (very close to all) of the very best music (ever) is on that list. It's somewhat like an answer to the Pitchfork 500. Except instead of 500 songs, it's 800 albums.
The 799 number is not counting all the singles from albums I don't think are worth it in their entirety or artists who don't necessarily justify owning complete albums (to me).
Anyway so the thread is multifunctional. If you want, go through my list and make boneheaded shitty suggestions about bad and/or obnoxious music I left off the list and call me a moron/tin-eared freak for doing so.
OR! Make insightful interesting suggestions after you read my whole list and kind of get an idea of what it is that I really like. If you're a real analyst and notice a trend or a certain dynamic, give me some awesome (fairly obscure or I'll already know it) stuff to check out.
The rest, just check it out. Got any questions like "who the fuck is this" ask me about them and I probably have a rapturous description for you and names of songs or things you need to hear.
Honestly, I listen to a lot of fucking music. And this isn't one of those collections where people just keep everything they download so they have this gigantic selection that pleases everybody. Not even close, this is pretty much the wheat from the chaff. The result of me mining the past thirty/forty years (mostly ten or so though) for cathartic, melodic, emotional, hostile, awe-inspiring, revelatory, fascinating, confrontational (whatever) songwriting. I have maybe ten instrumental albums in the whole bunch (probably more but it seems like only that many in comparison). These are like, songs and stuff. You know, ones that are good to listen to.
Instead of asking me where my "noise" albums are and whether or not I actually think Lightning Bolt and Shellac let me off the hook, I answer "nowhere" and "no, leave me alone" respectively.
You might notice that there are no rap albums and very few instrumentally hip-hop influenced records of any kind. That is because my rap collection would be a separate list (and wouuld raise the tally from 799 to jesus christ knows what). Ante up in the fuckin background

Would've been nice if you put your list on a site which wasn't bombarded with spam, and disgusting video cam girls.
EDIT: Alright, so I've made it past all of that, so now I have a question/comment.
Mignonette by the Avett Brothers. I've been looking everywhere for this but have yet to find it. I've heard some songs of the album, and it sounds really promising. How would you compare it to their predecessors?

Mignonette is okay. I like the "sentimental" version of Swept Away, which is a very accessible college-radio-hit kind of song. I haven't gotten nearly as into it as Emotionalism. It's slightly less inspired and a little more predictable. But I've also listened to it less than most of their other stuff. It's long. I'm only half-familiar with half of it. I'm telling you that on the level because you did happen to choose one of the albums I know less than perfectly well. [relatively brand-new records like the Apollo Sunshine often are like that].
finally.... ic an find out what blackgravel has on his computer... i've waited so long for this day to come

Well Chamber K, I'd say this stuff is mostly about discovering new music. For the posters and for the respondents. This thread pretty much facilitates both.
As to whether it seems like a transparent ploy to make myself seem cooler? I couldn't care less.
I wish Born Ruffians would have been more recognized by the end of this year, but sadly, no one is really talking about them. I don't think there's a bad song on that entire album...glad to see it on your list.
BG, I was just joking around. You see something written by me with horrible grammar and spelling, chances are I'm goofin'.

That King Khan album is pretty sweet. Did you see the videos of him at the pitchfork festival? I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it is. What's his other stuff like?
Ben Folds has more than enough nostalgic and sentimental value to justify throwing his latest on there.
It doesn't nearly "suck" anyway. Not fucking nearly. He's still a paragon of effortless songwriting and melody construction and a phenomenal musician. His whole deal has just become abrasive to a lot of people. He's a little schticky and borderline oblivious on some of his newer stuff. And the music isn't particularly inspired. And he at some point decided to never attempt to be inventive ever. So maybe it sucks a little; I'll still give him another chance every time.
Not to invite an avalanche of attempts on my character/ego, but uh. I already know what "sucks." You gotta let me know what it is that makes something sux doggie. Incite some actual conversation I can't do all the work
I just find the songs to range from mediocre -> terrible is all. OK, it doesn't uniformly suck, but I can't imagine ever feeling like listening to it ahead of Rockin The Suburbs/Whatever Ever Amen, which have plenty of GREAT songs, unlike Way to Normal. Also, he keeps trying to be "funny", and he's... not. It needs to stop. I agree with your first sentence though; I haven't deleted it either.
But what about KING KHAN? That was the main reason I posted. You listened to any of his earlier stuff?
Pet sounds is officially the best album of all time, followed closely by Smile. BG, I haven't checked out the list yet, but have you heard Sunflower? That is also an unbelievable Beach Boys album.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.
