Yeah, but that's being very subjective. On it's own terms VW is nifty rather than light and actually quite unique in terms of '08 releases. It's almost too different from anything else, not just metal, which makes it like a plunge into cold water on a hot day no matter what else you happen to be listening to at the time.

What do you specifically like about them? For me, a good tipoff that I don't like a band, is that I can't come up with a good answer to that question.

-The lyrics - listen to Campus and tell me your heart doesn't break. Then listen to Oxford Comma and tell me you don't laugh out loud!
-The vocals - Ezra Koenig sounds so sincere and almost whiny (well sort of in a good way) that he gives the music it's preppy sound
- The instruments - I'm not going into every one here but the overall sound feels so 2008 but includes world and classical influences

The band is energetic, humurous, heartbreaking without being corny AT ALL, and overall fun! The reason they are so easy to get into is they don't have complicated themes and they are so innocent that people won't get driven away by them on first listen. (If you read the comments, it took most people around 5 listens before they decided they didn't care for VW)

It took me all of one listen to a few MySpace songs. Just don't hear what you hear.

I'm looking for Russian Militant Black Metal. Semi-good production is a plus, as are clean vocals (if kept to a minimum). Also looking for vocals in Russian. Basically like a Russian version of Absurd...

When you have friends that are either metalheads or hip hop heads, Vampire Weekend is a much easier starting point then Wilco or Spoon.

I'll 2nd that. I downloaded it and gave it exactly one listen and dumped it. It was just completely not for me. And honestly, it has nothing to do with backlash. I was looking forward to it after hearing all the positive press.

I'm a metal fan. We're not all so monolithic. I don't like VW, but I do happen to like Black Kids, or at least, the four or five songs I've heard from them.

Haha, yeah. I was just kind of thinking about someone going from Rotting Christ to Vampire Weekend, like, one CD after the other. Razzer
