I agree. I really liked this album when I first heard it earlier this year. They're the musical guest on SNL tomorrow (March 8th). AND they're playing in my town next month!

"whats this?the light strokes?the afro strokes?" were my first thoughts , but after a few listens i cant stop listening to that album.they v got the tunes.many very good n memorable tunes , that make "Vampire Weekend" probably the best indie-pop album of the year so far. their sound is too "clean" n that s my only problem , cause i prefer the dirtier sound of the strokes or the cribs , but maybe thats what makes them original and unique.
they just bored me through a SNL performance. That's 5 minutes of my life i'll never get back. I just don't understand the appeal. How could they inspire anyone?

I dunno initially I rather enjoyed the album and I was even going to see them live. But school got in the way and I dunno their music didn't really hook me after the first few listens.

They were much better in person. Sound quality probably hindered them. I think they tried too hard to sound like their album version. The whole show was kind of dull...was impatiently waiting for them to come on.

I saw that performance, too, and was also completely unimpressed. I'm just not into them. On the plus side, it was worth watching to see Amy Adams. Hubba hubba.

I got the album when it leaked, and I liked it a lot. After I listened to it more and more, the more unimpressed I became. It definetley didn't deserve the ratings it got, but oh well. I would suggest it to anyone who's just getting into indie music.

I am completely oblivious to why VW is getting any press or hype at all. It is super boring with almost nothing new. Newsweek said that it was this generations "Rhythm of the Saints". My ass. Someone recommended Evangelicals. That is an amazing album, how come they don't get that kind of recognition?

Yeah, I was hoping I didn't get "flamed" for saying they were boring...seems like a lot agree. Also, for someone who enjoys p4k like I do, I found their review for Vampire Weekend's record to be much flawed. For one, I hate when they say something like this:
"plenty of people have found reasons to hate Vampire Weekend from the first note, many of them having to do with their prep aesthetic and Ivy League educations-- Oxford shirts, boat shoes, Columbia University."
When the reviewer states something like this, it is HE that perpetuates the stereotype that we won't like them because they are clean cut and ivy educated. I could literally give a flying fuck about that. It's not good music, that's why i don't like it, ok? Furthermore, the reviewer's comparisons to The Strokes and their haters is way off mark. The Strokes at least had the meat AND the potatoes (their debut doesn't even deserve to be compared to VW because it is SOOOO much better). Vampire Weekend is just a bunch of potatoes, and dirty and tasteless potatoes at that.
Speaking of Amy Adams and off-topic, does anyone else think that her "Junebug" performance is among the best of our generation? I certainly do.

I've found it better to not read Pitchfork's reviews, and just look at what score they give most of the albums they review.
