Wow. Both are amazing albums (potentially each making my Top 10, or at least 25, of the decade so far), but I'm gonna give it to Return to the Sea simply because I like Nick Thorburn's voice a lot better.
"Rough Gem" may eclipse everything else these guys have done, but in terms of a solid album "Who Will Cut Our Hair" is far ahead.

I chose "Who Will Cut Our Hair..." because I didn't like that song off of "Return to the Sea" about that guy named Oscar. That was just too fucking weird.

"Volcanoes" also had Oscar noting that the world would end in 2007.

I'm betting it's Oscar from "Volcanoes" because it really freaked me out at first too. Eventually I made friends with the chain smoking dead kid and the song became one of my favorites on the album.

That's another one of those "moments of silence/white noise" things that put me off of albums. I do not like it when there's dead air on a CD.

If anyone is interested, I have been listening to Return to the Sea an awful lot this week, thanks to this thread, and I have to say it's completely blowing me away. I hadn't listened to it in several months, but there was a time after I first bought it when I would listen to it all the time. But now it feel like I have never heard parts of it before. Maybe I just have better headphones now.
If you haven't listened to it in a while, you should pull it out and give it another spin.
