Beach House's new album is coming out in 2008, however it has leaked already.

I figured I would make a thread as a preemptive strike. This album is gorgeous. If you are familiar with their self-titled debut, it has a lot of the elements that made that album stellar: slow-burning "nico-esque" vocals, minimal electronic percussion, angelic guitar lines, and humming organ progressions.

However, the new album shows even more growth in terms of song structure and instrumentation. "Devotion" features more complex arrangements and vocal harmonies, however there is still a simplified, folksy melodic sensibility that makes you wonder how somebody didn't write these melodies already. I've been captivated from the first listen...

I can't wait for this. I heard the official leak of "Gila" from the new album and love it. I saw them live with Grizzly Bear and thought they were fantastic.

I'm glad to hear that they've made leaps in terms of songwriting. I loved the sound of the first record, but not all the songs.

Beach House kinda bore me. I gave this album a week to see if it would grow on me, but nope. I also gave their debut a spin and I found it just as boring.

I agree that it's in slow-motion, but I don't think it's boring. It's all about the vocal phrasing. I haven't heard the new one, though.

This album isn't boring in the slightest. Subtle, delicate, sure, but not boring.

I don't equate quieter albums with boring. To me, unadventurous stuff like, say, the last Shins album, is boring. This is gorgeous and intricate.

Awww Devotion's lovely! Whether it'll be one of the 'best of 2008' is another question. I'll give it some serious listening. Could go either way for me.

This is a nice little album! Devotion is an improvement off their already pleasant debut. It's nice to get 2008 off to such a good start.

As far as lists go, it's way way way too early to tell.

i'm really digging this album. it's a completely appropriate successor to their debut- it's the same style, but they've shown some growth. what a great band.

I agree with CouldBAnyone that the album has a 'folksy melodic sensibility' and would add to this that there is a timeless quality to this album that relates to its simplicity... I have been surprised by how many times I have been drawn back to listening to this album. It's refreshing that it doesn't try too hard to be the 'sound of now'.

I totally loved their debut, but I find the new one very tedious. I've tried several times, and it just never grabs me. Maybe if I give it a rest for a few weeks and come back to it, it will click.

I like it. I wouldn't consider it "great" or "amazing" but it's a cute album that I'll listen to from time to time.

Still my favorite of the year so far. Sounds great on vinyl, too.
