New track released for download off their website:

Sounds like Ounsworth and the gang have yet to lose their weird pop sensibilities.

I saw them perform "Statues" here and its fucking horrible. They are turning out to be quite the one hit wonder.

Just gave it a spin. Sadly have to agree with hophead; song appears to suck.

Guess I'm in the minority here... I freakin' love it. Then again, I still listen to Some Loud Thunder on a regular basis and think it was excellent. One complaint... he needs to leave his voice the f*** alone on recordings. He doesn't have the greatest tone, but his voice is unique and adequate. Drenching it in reverb/chorus/delay does nothing but make me wonder what the hell he is saying! Vocals were perfect on the live performance. If I hadn't watched that I would have no idea what the lyrics are. Otherwise, I think it's great. How can you not love that funky ass bass playing??

Hmm, well, agree to disagree. I thought their live performance on Jimmy Fallon's show was a big step forward, which involved them taking a step back from Some Loud Thunder. Don't get me wrong, I love the album, but the direction they were heading in was progressive-indie-weirdness, but this new track definitely has a more pop aesthetic. I love it, and am totally psyched for this new album. In fact, just for the hell of it, I'm going to listen to their debut and Thunder albums straight through in fanboy anticipation of it.

The second half of the track was really good. I dunno, I liked Some Great Thunder, but the first time I listened to it, I was influenced by the negative reviews I heard and couldn't enjoy it. Second, third times around made me like it more.

It pays to kill anyone who has information.

New album? Either I'm missing something or the reports of the band's death are greatly exaggerated...

Anyway, I liked Some Loud Thunder , but their first was so good that leaving it off with that album would've been a shame. And I thought that "Statues" could stand up with the best from their second (i.e. "Underwater (You and Me)", "Emily Jean Stock"), although I'll reserve judgement until I hear it recorded.

"No one dies..."
"Well then what's the point?"

And what would that "hit" be?

I enjoyed it. Nothing magical, but I heard the live version, I'd like to hear the studio version.

Poor choice of expression I guess as they don't really have a "hit", but their first album is brilliant. One of the best of the decade easily.

They were saying they were going to release a full length as CYHSY, a solo from Flashy Python and the Bodysnatchers (Alec's band) and a children's album. None of that happened, obviously, but them releasing Statues is a hell of a start.

I went to see CYHSY perform at the University of Texas last weekend. They were playing for free, so I figured what the hell. Musically, I think they are a great band, one that sounds very tight and well adjusted. Something happens when Ounsworth opens his mouth, though. I immediately remember why I can't like CYHSY, and I subsequently left the show 45 minutes in to their set. Seriously one of the most annoying voices in music.

Image doesn't matter if the music sounds like crap.
