I think its been posted but in case anyone missed it, http://www.antlersmusic.com/linernotes.pdf

Read the first part, and then read while you listen to the songs. I too like how the voices are kind of buried in the music, because the music is fantastic. My favorite album of the year with Wake being my favorite song of the year.

Im hoping to see these guys live at Monolith Music Festival. Im really curious as to how a live performance of this album will be.

Just saw them in Newport, KY last night. They warmed up for Au Revoir Simone, but they incredible. You can tell they are at the cusp of achieving greater notoriety. Anyway, they played seven songs, six from Hospice I belive and the intensity translates stunningly to the live setting. Fantastic shoegaze guitar and kinetic drumming. A wonderful experience.

There's a really good interview with Peter Silberman from The Antlers over at Adequacy.net. Find it Here.

It's very insightful, and gives an interesting perspective into the thought process behind the album. Also, it gave me a new appreciation for the band as a whole, since Peter seems like a very genuine and honest guy.

I missed their show here in Hollywood because I chose to watch the Laker game instead. I can't say that I regret my decision because it was an amazing game, but did anyone else go to that show and would they care to report?

Finally figured out what was bugging me about "Two" - it uses the same vocal melody as Bright Eyes' "A Perfect Sonnet." I feel like "Bear"'s vocal melody for the verses is freakily familiar, too, but I'm not sure from where.

Good album nonetheless.

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I made a connection in my mind today between this album and Pedro the Lion's Winner's Never Quit. I think there are a lot of similarities here. The same slowed down dirge rhythems broken up with loud emotional crescendos. Similar blunt reality storylines used as metaphor. Same sense of isolation and confusion and dealing with death. Soft spoken vocals that are entangling and draw you in.

Anyway, just a random thought. It's several years old now, but I recommend it to anyone looking for something similar to Hospice.

Basically a short little hype piece about "Hospice"'s upcoming remastered release in August. There's an interview, too.

Pretty good sign it'll get BNM.

Just getting around to this album, but it's blowing me away. Such a gorgeous and expansive listen. But it is emotionally exhausting. In a sense, though, that's part of what I like about it. The narrative is captivating and the lyrics are simultaneously touching and defeating.

Funny thing though, i keep reading the terminal patient referred to as the narrator's love interest, but I read that Silberman actually based the idea around a caretaker who is verbally abused by the patient, or something along those lines. It's on the Frenchkiss Records Web site, probably explains better.

Got this one off emusic a while ago - good to hear a remastered version is on its way - music this multilayered and occasionally so delicate needs the best treatment.

Haven't got the faintest clue what is being sung about but then I really need to get back to listening to this one - there have been too many releases lately rolling into my ears and this one got a little left behind, despite its brilliant first impressions.

And, like I thought - Antlers gets Best New Music at the devil's website.

So is there any difference between the new reissue on FrenchKiss and the self-released one?

I rather enjoy this album, and it seems to be garnering some very favorable reviews, somewhat belatedly.

I was hoping Pitchfork would address and differences between the releases as well. You know they've had the original for months like we have.

Might have been remastered. That's as much as I know.

Love this record, btw.

I feel especially connected to Hospice because Kettering is named after my home town. I sincerely doubt my Kettering, but nonetheless...

I think there is a Kettering in Ohio somewhere. We're twinned, i believe.

I assumed that Kettering was in reference to Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

The song is about a terminal patient after all. Which is what makes it kind of a hard listen sometimes. But, in a good way. Not every album can really be that affecting.

So I sat down with this album with the lyrics sheet in front of me, and while I certainly found a lot more to like than I had when I listened lyric-free, I still am a little baffled by the very high Metacritic score. It's currently sitting above Merriweather Post Pavilion with an 89, but granted this is with 1/3 the amount of reviews. Nonetheless, impressive scores for an album that I just can't seem to crack.

I was rummaging through the year-end-list thread, and it doesn't seem like this album is getting as much attention by metacritic users as an 89 score would have me supposing. Where do you guys think this album is going to land on your lists by year's end, or, where is it currently sitting on your lists?

Reviews seem very fair to me, it's interesting to see which of these reviewers felt compelled to review it when it was self-released and which ones waited until a proper release to get promos. I'm not someone that's constantly updating my year-end list nor do I hear something and think, "Ah, this is like 15-25." But right now, it'd probably be a top 10 album of the year for me.

Seems like it will be a grower for you, which doesn’t surprise me given the density and depth this album possesses. Judging by your likes and dislikes, you seem to go for stuff that hits you right away first. Actually, Shadrach was the one who first mentioned this album way back then and he was sort of on the fence about it while others were falling in love with it. Now, he loves it just as much as anyone else, so who knows.

I feel like I should go back to it again. I have a feeling this album is going to be like Ys and other albums that requires a lot of work for me to get into. And while I enjoy reaping the benefits of my dedication to an album, usually there is something more for me to grab on to. I'm going to go back to it again sometime soon, and I will let you know if it continues growing on me. My obvious hope is that this album moves me like it has with some of you guys; I love that feeling when something really grabs you.

Its top 5 for me personally for the year, however its an overall very weak year, maybe worst year of the decade. But still, this album gives me an emotional punch that nothing else this year can do, other than "My Girls" but that's one song and this is an entire album that cuts me to the core. I love it.

You obviously aren't looking for the right music and need to listen to more. Duh.
