As for web stores, I just stumbled on Squidco in my search for the 2007 Acid Mothers Temple SWR record called "Stones, Women, Records." Looks like these guys have a wide selection of electronic/musique concrete stuff for me to look through. Lots of great sounding stuff - and I just learned about this new term "Plunderphonics" or sample based stuff like Girl Talk or Person Pitch.

I can imagine... I can think of 3 or 4 different incarnations of AMT off the top of my head and I'm not even that big of a fan. That first SWR record really sizzles my bacon though. I'm excited to hear the second one.
Recently obtained the last two Birchville Cat Motel releases - Four Freckled Constellation and Gunpowder Temple of Heaven. Anyone heard these already - I'll report back...
Still workingon the BCM releases. Gunpowder Temple isn't quite the 4.5 stars that TMT gave it, still good though. I think I like Four Freckled Constellation better. Snyways, here are some recent acquisitions -
Our Sleepless Forest - S/T Lawrence English - Kiri No Oto Janek Schaefer - Extended Play
So far I have only given a single rotation to each, but all three have impressed me in one way or another. Anyone else been listening to these?
I heard about her on some random artist list (I think it was on Dusted).
Anyway, I was in San Francisco a while back and picked this up at Aquarius, mainly because of the cover art. Gave it a cursory listen, which irritated my girlfriend a bit. On listening to it again, it's great!
She did a split with Grouper, and I think that's a decent point of reference. I like the range of sounds presented on here - it goes from deep chimes with a kind of cave like ambience and creepy synth drones to viola squeaks ala Nico era John Cale. But not so wide a range as to eradicate her sense of sonic identity. I think the whole package communicates a sense of sonic place kind of like the Kallikak Family, although I'm not sure if this has the same depth. Time will tell.
I'm checking out those you listed above Sicnarf - I'll get back when I've given them some ear time.
Happy to hear good things about that Inca Ore record. I have had my eye on it for a bit but haven't picked it up yet. However, I did stumble across Blank Dogs' On Two Sides and The Hospitals' Hairdryer Peace, both of which are superb and follow in line with the seeming emergence of Lo-Fi pop hitting the indie mainstream ala No Age, Times New Viking, Sic Alps, Eat Skull, ect. Good Stuff.
I love Hairdryer Peace and the giddy energy that runs through every fucked up note. I hope it holds up - I'll be checking out that Blank Dogs record too.
The new Red Sparrrowes ep is good, but Requiem by The (Fallen) Black Deer is pretty damn good. It's eerie as shhhiiiittt, supposed to be an alternate soundtrack to Kubrick's The Shining.
I am almost entirely ignorant when it comes to avant-garde music, at least the sort that is often discussed on these boards. I don't know Paavoharju from Public Enemy, but I listened to the clips from their latest record on iTunes and I was intrigued to the point of fascination. I have enjoyed a lot of ambient, textural dream pop lately (High Places, Panda Bear). Do you more experienced avant-gardists recommend the Paavoharju album? And what other avant-garde releases of this year can you suggest? I like a lot of bands that tend toward the "rock" end of the noise-rock spectrum, like Parts & Labor, Liars, Wolf Eyes, etc.
Hey Vlad this is a recommendation for you and everyone else. Just read the review of Snacks' Natural Snacks album on Foxy Digitalis and am quite happy with the fact that the label has the whole thing available for download. Super great and recommended for fans of WZT Hearts or Aufgehoben (though don't expect it to bowl over Khora). Really super great and awesome though - just my style.
Runhild GammelsaeterAmplicon. This is some weird shit. One-woman (yeah) metal/folk band. I can't describe it - you just have to hear it for yourself.

Anyone here listened to Extra Life's Secular Works? I have been giving it a few spins since Dusted and TMT gave it good reviews. I can certainly see the connection to ZS, but does anyone else hear Tool here? weird.

I'm wondering what the harsh-noise albums of the year have been. For a fan of Prurient, Hair Police, and Dead Machines, what could be recommended from this year (or any other year if it's just THAT good).
I'm a fan of Yellow Swans and basically the entire Troubleman Label (or at least their weird noise bands), as well as droney-dirge metal like Sunn 0))), Sleep, and Earth (big time on Earth). I find myself losing touch with my edge in terms of staying atop the avant-garde/ noise-rock tip... My schedule has been absolute shit and will be for a while, so if someone could help me out, that would be amazing. Just some bands/solo-artists/composers even that fall in line with my tastes.
Thanks.

I haven't heard this but she was on a SunnO))) album and was in a band on Southern Lord called Thorr's Hammer which only released one album. It was pretty awesome doom though. I'll have to check this out.

Here are some from 2008:
Aufgehoben's Khora Snacks' Delicious Snacks The Goslings' Occasion Birchville Cat Motel's Four Freckled Constellation
As for any year, John Wiese's Soft Punk released last year is probably my favourite as far as harsh noise is concerned.

I've got a couple others:
The Hospitals - Hairdryer Peace
This straddles the gap between the lo-fi pop and the noise crowds. Put together in a similar manner as the Aufgehoben records (i.e. splicing recordings all over the place, composing as they go). Probably my favorite record of the year so far.
Shit and Shine - Küss Mich, Meine Liebe
Just picked this up the other day and listening to it now. It's pretty damn good. Doesn't sound like it'll be quite as sludge-yourfuckingface-off as Jealous of Shit and Shine (which you should definitely hear if you haven't yet), but I like it a bit better than their other release this year, Cherry.
