Not to jump into the middle of a cat fight but I have been listening to too many good 2007 records in 2008 not to speak up.
First of all, I have no idea how I let myself wait so long to get Soft Punk. I have never listened to any Wiese before, despite seeing him just about everywhere. Soft Punk is just nuts! Would've definately broke my top ten.
Next, also been enjoying Mammal's Lonesome Drifter and Birchville Cat Motel's Seventh Ruined Hex are really good. Both in the top 50 - whatever that means.
I have been listening to Blues Control's Puff and haven't been too impressed. I liked their self titled a whole lot better.
Shape of Broad Minds is a pretty sick hip hop album. Haven't heard anything great from that genre recently.
Anywho, just a few retro notes. Anyone else still finding 2007 gems?

Fuck yeah! That's what I like to hear. Let's hope it doesn't take forever before he graces us with another "full-length."
I've yet to fully take in that Birchville Cat Motel record. I bought it and it's been sitting there waiting for me to find time to give it a good spin.
Hopefully there will be some great stuff this year. Nothing has yet to totally grab my ear. I've heard a few good records just not any great ones.
Posted by Jonathanbrisby I really liked Invisible Conga People and Sex Vid.
haven't listened to the ICP yet, but Sex Vid have greatness stamped all over them.
They could become a darling of mine!!
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

I have really into Morgan Packard and Mark Templeton from the Anticipate label and I just got Sawako's Madoromi and am stunned. Best thing Anticipate has released yet which, even with only 4 total releases thus far, is an accomplishment.

Couldn't agree with you more Sicnarf. The Anticipate label is shaping up to be fantastic. I just finished reviewing both the Morgan Packard and Mark Templeton records for Tiny Mix Tapes. I think they are excellent albums. Now I'm going to have to track down that Sawako album since you're giving it such high praise!
in terms of noise I think early Einsturzende Neubauten are pretty good place to start, Kollaps and halber Mensch are good examples of noise fashioned into songs with power tools (drills, metal etc and guitar and bass) also White light white heat by Velvet Underground is a good starting place, agree that early sonic youth is also good.
For avant garde maybe Godspeed you black emperor, not so much noise, but they have certain avant garde elements

Anyone else heard the Fuck Buttons' Street Horrrsing yet? I am kinda disappointed by it initially but maybe I just need to give it some more time to sink in.

I haven't heard it yet but I'm fucking amped! I remember when they released that Free EP on their website a few years back, it was so good. As a matter of fact, I'm going to listen to it now.
