I second Acid Mothers Temple (in fact I think the guitarist for Mainliner is also in Acid Mothers) and Ghost, I've only heard a few songs from Hanatarash, but what I have heard is really good. The others I'll have to get listening to.
Here's a review of Mainliner's Mellow Out by Julian Cope.
I'd like to start a blog or at the least write for a website, I just don't really know where to start (which sounds stupid, because it's incredibly easy to get into both those things)
As for the Japanese noise stuff, you should definitely check out White Heaven and Ruins if you haven't already. Ruins is like a Japanese precursor to Lightning Bolt and White Heaven featured some members of Acid Mothers Temple. If you're going for more full-bore noise there's always Merzbow, Masonna, and Keiji Haino.
I've been listening to mainly Early Boredoms and Onanie Bomb Meets the Sex Pistols by Boredoms, everything except for Cell-Scape by Melt Banana (I hate that album, ugh), Open Your Cunt by Masonna, Hyderomastgroningem and Stonehenge by Ruins, Pink by Boris, Nation of Rhythm Slaves and Otis by Violent Onsen Geisha, Spike by Agata (the guitarist of Melt Banana) which I love.
I have Hanatarashi 1 and Hanatarashi 2 by Hanatarash, Do Whatever You Want.. by Acid Mothers Temple, Z-Rock Hawaii s/t (essentially Ween and Boredoms), and Alienation by YBO2 (Yoshida Tatsuya/K.K. Null/Kitamura Masashi) but haven't had a chance to give these a fair listen yet.
So, I'm a little more deep than I let on, but it was just because I didn't really feel like going through what I was diggin', hoping that I'd get all sorts of different stuff anyways (which I still did). I'll have to check out Ghost, White Heaven, Keiji Haino, Polysics (who I've listened to briefly before), and Otomo Yoshihide sounds pretty awesome too.
Although I have not been able to get Merzbow no matter how many different albums I try, I still like Masonna.. Merzbow's noise is always so harsh and static-y to me; it doesn't really seem to serve a purpose other than assault.
Oh! And grabblegarrr, do me a favor and just go open a blog at blogger and just start writing about any album that catches your attention. I would love to see that.
If you haven't heard this guy's music, you definitely should. scaruffi recommended him to me. Easy to pick up cheap on wax. not quite avant garde, but great nonetheless.
Teardrop Explodes - Kilimanjaro Julian Cope - My Nation Underground
I forgot one more in my first post...
I wasn't paying attention so at first I assumed Les Rallizes Denudes were French and not Japanese. But they're the Japanese Velvet Underground. They even played with a show like the Exploding Plastic Inevitable, but apparently they played too loud for the show http://www.answers.com/topic/les-rallizes-denudes-1?cat=entertainment. .
I've heard a few stuff by Cope here and there, I didn't love it, but I'm sure he has some stuff that I would.
I've heard a lot about Les Rallizes Denudes and a few of their songs I like a lot, but I can't find any albums by them anywhere.
I heard the same sort of thing happened with Mercury Rev at Lollapalooza...them getting kicked off for playing to loudly. It's a shame they moved into the territory they're in now, at least for me.

Most of the few recordings they did are out-of-print. For a while you could get some bootleg live disc thing from Forced Exposure, but I don't know if you can still get it even though it's still listed on their site.
That stuff is off the fucking hook though. Psychedelic stuff that was loud and unbelievably noisy.
album leads me to believe that they need to show more restraint, and then they turn around and show too much restraint for me on the second half. Either way, there are some great songs on GAame, such as Manshake, New
grabblegarr is right - I really like Aa. GAame is actually in my top ten.
On another topic. I just noticed that Birchville Cat Motel released his 3rd full length this year on Important with help from Matthew Bower. I've listened to a bit of it and it sounds like some of his older stuff like Chi Vampires. Really great.
could you recommend any other musicians/bands with a sounds similar to Aa that i may not have heard of?
First and foremost I'd go with Boredoms, especially Vision Creation Newsun. Now that I think about it OOIOO would be a good one too, they rely heavily on their rhythm section like Aa. I'd also say Raccoo-oo-oon would be a good one. They're a lot darker and heavier, but they share the same tribal feel that Aa has. They also share a lot in common with Liars' Drum's Not Dead and Animal Collective's Here Comes the Indian, but you've probably heard those already.
Vision Creation Newsun is one of my all time favorite albums. I really dig later Boredoms stuff (Seadrum might be my favorite song ever). OOIOO has never hit quite same chord with me though. I've liked what little I have heard of Raccoo-oo-oon, but I can't find the album on any torrent websites for the life of me (and with $2 in my bank account after paying winter quarter tuition, i think saving money for food will be my top priority rather than buying the album). As far as Liars and Animal Collective, they are also two of my favorite bands.
I appreciate the recommendations - feel free to keep them coming.
I would also recommend self titled Health album and Clipd Beaks albums released this year. Judging by your tastes those should enjoyable. You might also like Kemialliset Ystavat's most recent release.
really digging clipd breaks - much appreciated

These bands were hugely influential on Clipd Beaks, Health, and Liars, Sonic Youth, etc. They are really noisy, kinda strange, but completely wonderful and engaging.
And then here are some excellent No Wave compilations: V/A- No New York (not my favorite, but since Brian Eno compiled it, it's very well known)
V/A- New York Noise Vol. 1-3 (this focuses on the more free jazz/soul side that was more dancy.. not all is No Wave but all is related. Excellent excellent compilations..)
Liquid Liquid and ESG are also worth checking out.
Great post. I was just about to get on your ass, again, about starting a blog.
And I like your first post, its frenzy and scattered (yet completely logical) mannerism completely capture the essence of the album (in its structure and in teh wrods you wrote).
Great album to choose as your first post. Please keep it up, I'll be checking frequently (and letting the people who read my blog know about you!)

Actually that's a big part of the appeal of it to me. But if you can't get into Merzbow, you may take more of a liking to someone like Carlos Giffoni, particuarly his new album Arrogance. It's more like a stream of moody, dark, slow-paced guttural noise than a static assault, and it doesn’t constantly shock the listener into submission like many a Merzbow album. (Although I though Merzbear was more subdued.)
