You know what? I am an insane Animal COllective fan (and Panda Bear fan for that matter) but something about his most recent is sticking with me. Don't get me wrong - I do like it, but it isn't clocking anywhere near where I would've guest it would. I like the Beirut release quite a bit, but definitely need to listen to it more.
As for weise: I heard and MP3 and am dying to listen to the entire album. No luck yet.
My current chart toppers for me are Sunset Rubdown, Mark Templeton and Pumice.
Interesting. I just bought that Sunset Rubdown on vinyl. Is that Mark Templeton record called Standing on a Humminbird? Tell me more about it. I remember seeing a positive review on Cokemachineglow and was intrigued.
Man, I look back at some of the typos and off the cuff sentences of my previous posts and just have to laugh.
Anywho, Templeton's Standing on a Hummingbird is Fenneszian style elctro-acoustic and shares a little bit with Geoff Mullen's thrysxmllnmnfstns release, which, if I remember right, wasn't your favourite of his. I really love this though, so you never know.
I'm pretty sure I've seen Old Time Relijun mentioned in here previously, but I just recently heard it.
Its legit no wave sound (a la Contortions?) is really blowing me away. I feel like I should throw away my "Post-Punk Is Dead" t-shirt haha (yes, I really did make a shirt that says that. Thank you the Exploited for the idea!!)

Yeah, I was listening to that record today. They are definitely similar to the Contortions, even moreso Birthday Party with quite a bit of Beefheart in their too (obviously). Great stuff.

Got my copy of Kemialliset Ystävät in the mail the other day. wow.
It sounds kind of like OOIOO/Boredoms, Finnish style. There's also an undercurrent of Faust as mentioned by the CMG review. I also hear some Residents strain of goofiness, but in K.Y.'s case (as in my favorite Faust and Boredoms material), the "cosmic jokes" are musical.
straight to the top of my list, which just won't stop changing. and the liner notes crack my shit up. Here's an excerpt:
"It was the eighties, you know, me and my little sister were waiting for mom to come home from work and we decided to make coffee for her, but we couldn't find the damn grounds, you know, the situation got fucked, we started to get hysterical, we were crying, we fell on the kitchen floor, we started to pray, it was the first time I was totally immersed in prayer, we were one with my sis, lemme tell ya, and suddenly I don't remember quite how, we just got up, found the grounds and made the coffee. Mother was happy and loved us and we loved her and God."
uhhhhhh.... yeah. Crazy Finns
Also I finally got a chance to listen to that Raccoo-oo-oon record. I think I'll get a copy from Aquarius Records

Yeah I just..err..downloaded (cough) the Kemialliset Ystävät. I haven't spun (see what I did there implying a physical copy!) it enough to really get into it but I loved what I heard the first time through.
Anyone else digging the new Sunburned Hand of the Man record "Fire Escape"? It features Kieran Hebdan of Four Tet and some members of Vibracathedral Orchestra. I really like the change in atmosphere for this record, despite being a fan of these freaky drugged out guys for awhile.
I'm glad some people are talking about Kemialliset Ystävät. Just having a heard only a few of the MySpace tracks, I'm genuinely intrigued and want to hear more. It sounds like the journey will be rewarding, as it will open up an entirely new genre to me, anyway.

I really like the new Sunburned Hand record. I like some of their other stuff to varying degrees, but this one might be the best thing I've heard by them so far. I honestly have the same problem with most of the other bands that fall in that sort of style, Wooden Wand & the Vanishing Voice, No-Neck Blues Band, and Jackie-O Motherfucker. All of them have one record that I think is pretty outstanding and a ton of others where they seem to be more inconsistent but with moments of brilliance here and there.
Yeah that Sunburned record is quite good. I had it at about 25 or so on my list before and I think it's going up. It's definitely less expiremental than their previous stuff, but I think I like it more than any of that.

I'll definitely need to hear that. I also heard of a collab. disc called the Blaze Game with Circle from the Aquarius Records site. prolly gotta grab that as well.
Sooahh.. the Clipd Beaks album (that Grabblegarrr told me I needed to hear a while back) finally made it's way into my hands today.
It's incredible. I actually hear a lot of the same sound as the new Liars album, but way more risks and much more exploration. The lyrics (if you take the time to decode the CD booklet to discover that there are legit lyrics) are pretty good too. This surprised me because normally if the vocals are mixed behind that much sound, they are either disguising shitty lyrics, or there really are no lyrics, just guttural sounds.
I have been listening to Gowns' Red State and am amazed. Anyone else heard this? Really haunting, wierd, gothic americana noise. Really good.
I also was able to locate a place to get Grouper's ltd. Cover the Windows and the Walls LPhere. It is a must listen. I have had some reservations about her previous releases but this is amazing. It would be a tradgedy if this doesn't get a wider release at some point.
PS - Anyone know where I can find that Blues Control "Puff" LP?
I finally got a hold of that avante-folk record "Scientific Cricket" by Grampall Jookabox. Did anyone else give this record a listen? I think its some incredibly inventive southern folk with avant-garde elements and sonic juxtapositions. Sure some songs verge on unbearably quirky, but I love songs like "We're The Small Windows" for how they blend stylistic elements into a cohesive, schizophrenic mess. Words are failing me in describing this record but I would recommend it highly.
I would like to support JB's comments about the freek-folk acts. Inconsistent, but glorious when they're good. However, a special mention for Jackie-O. I lurve all they touch...the latest a little less.. Kieran Hebdan...my kind of guy, wandering stylistically...he'll have a great entry in the music obits when he passes. (hopefully he lives a long and fruitful life)
Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been, Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene; As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be, So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

Speaking of Kieran Hebdan, I've been listening to Rounds non-stop this week for some reason. I hope his next Four Tet full-length is as good or even better but that's gonna be a hard one to beat for me. It's an absolutely excellent album.

Yeah, I didn't think Everything Ecstatic was quite as incredible as Rounds, although I like how he complicated his drum breaks and broadened his musical palette. Still, how could he top "Unspoken?"
That damn Scientific Cricket has lodged itself into my brain, its strange how even in its oddities it is really infectious.
