I'm interested in hearing the new Aufgehoben, I liked the last one quite a bit. I also loved the last Sightings record, so I'm really excited for that.
Mostly, I just wanted to say that the new Black Dice album is really great, much better than I thought it would be.

I heard a few of the new Sightings songs on their Myspace page. It's pretty different sounding from their last record, End Times. The vocals are prominent and the bass is doing some strange melodic part underneath all of the skronk on every track they have up. I'll be interested in hearing it for sure. I've also been rocking the new Black Dice. Great stuff. I like it even better than Broken Ear Record so far.

I just got MoHa!'a Norwegianism and it Superb with a capital S! Sounds like a lighter more agile Aufgehoben to these ears. Rune Grammaphon has been putting out some steady stuff lately.

Also listening to Religious Knives Remains, Nico Muhly's Speaks Volumes, No Age's Wierdo Rippers and the new Rawwar Gang Gang Dance. Anyone else heard these?

Hey JB, whats the verdict on the new Sunroof?

The new Sunroof! is pretty good. It starts off a little awkward with some Mick Flower guitar parts that are kind of burbling underneath a layer of hiss. The track is nearly twenty minutes and by the time it reaches minute five or so, it's found its footing. The rest of it is pretty great stuff from Matthew Bower and if you are already a Sunroof! fan it'll make a nice addition to your collection.

Okay so I just found out from the Aufgehoben guys that their new record may not be out until early next year. Bummer. My interview with them is pretty much done as soon as they email me the last few answers to my questions. I'll post a link to it in this thread for those interested when it runs.

Speaking of Lou Reed, has anyone heard Zeitkratzer's take on "Metal Machine Music"? I like it a lot. For those that haven't heard it, the ensemble did an orchestral take on Metal Machine Music. They contacted Lou Reed to see if he'd mind them performing it (and for him to accompany them on guitar), he replied that it's be impossible for them to transcribe and perform. They sent him the sheet music (I believe, maybe it was a recording) and he promptly gave his blessing and agreed to do the guitar part.

There is an interesting interview with Lou Reed about Metal Machine Music on Pitchforkmedia today.

On another note, that new Yellow Swans record is really good.

I've been listening to Birchville Cat Motel's newest, Birds Call Home Their Dead a lot lately. It's really beautiful and epic, one of the better albums I've heard this year. Definitely recommended.

Anyone heard the newest TMT rave, Wzt Hearts? I've only listened to it once, but I like it a lot so far.

I just got that Wzt Hearts record and it's really good. I'm listening to it right now in fact.

Interesting note about that Mouthus track Sicnarf. They're playing here in a couple of weeks with Yellow Swans. It should be interesting to see what they're like live. I love them, their last two full-lengths on Important, Follow This House and The Long Salt are both awesome. I'm gonna wait to hear any of the new one until I can hear the whole thing. It comes out Tuesday if I'm not mistaken.

Sorry to double post, but the Wzt Hearts record sounds to me like newer Black Dice mixed with some Fennesz.

Damnit. Yellow Swans and Mouthus were playing very close to where I live too, but unfortunately, the venue was shut down.

I just heard some of that WZT Hearts and it sounds nuts! I want it. The new Yellow Swans sounds good too.

Does anyone know who is releasing the new Sightings album and when?

i listened to WZT hearts on their myspace and wasn't blown away from what i hear.. but streaming audio, as you as know, isn't great quality.

BUT, what i am being blown away by in the new Tarentel cd.. damn i love those drums. also, john weise has been in heavy rotation. The new Religious Knives (remains) needs some more spins, but its promising.

i have yet to get into yellow swans.. where do I begin with their material?

It's tough to recommend a good starting place for Yellow Swans. There is a wealth of material to choose from and it seems to me like they often do their best work on the harder to find releases. The new one that comes out in October, At All Ends is really good and so is the last one, Psychic Secession. They are very different records though. Psychic Secession is more pummeling repetitive stuff while the new one is almost ambient drone.
