Yeah I saw JB's review on DOA and I gave it a couple spins, really great noise.

Assuming you're not referring to this guy I haven't heard the whole record yet, but what I have heard I've liked a lot. I'll get my hands on it soon enough.

Yeah, definitely Eric Copeland from Black Dice and not THAT other guy. (ha ha ha) That dude is giving Tennessee a bad name. Like we need anymore Christian artists down here in the Bible Belt. As for Hermaphrodite, I think it's great. It'll make a nice addition to the Black Dice camp catalog. It reminds me of a less realized Beaches & Canyons, but in the best way possible.

I know you guys were talking about This Heat's Deceit earlier; well, I wrote a review for it on my blog.. some of you who heard it back when it was new would make for some interesting feedback and thoughts (if any of you were that hip)

Yeah, I read that, I was going to comment it but I don't have an account and didn't feel like making one. You did a good job on the review. I'm definitely too young to have heard it when it came out though, so I can't help you out on that. This has been said before, but if you liked Deceit, definitely pick up the Out of Cold Storage Box Set, or their self-titled debut, both of which are as good if not better than Deceit, albeit a little less accessible.

Talk about torture... I can't find a dl of it anywhere and it's an exorbitant amount of money! Although I imagine it's probably worth paying for it to get the liner notes and artwork and such...

JB, I listened to the Eric Copeland record and I like it a lot, definitely a nice addition to their catalog. And Jglass, even if you can't get the Out Of Cold Storage box set, definitely pick up This Heat's self titled, it should be easy to find on the internet for relatively cheap. One of my favorite records. I also wanted to mention the cd Weighing Souls with Sand by the Angelic Process. It's great. Sounds sort of like Jesu and Sunn 0))) really dense stuff, one of my favorites of the year.

I actually picked it up a couple of weeks ago because I've heard it's just as wonderful, but I didn't comment because it still hasn't sunk in yet. Albums like this seep into my brain over time rather than just being like "Oh! Wow! This is incredible!" (but I think most albums in this area take a goo amount of time to digest for most people)

I have been finding a lot to celebrate about 2006 that I didn't initially hear about or listen too. Specifically: Axolotl - Telesma Axolotl - Way Blank Pumice - Yeahnahvienna Stefan Neville - Do Not Destroy... Jan Jelinek - Tierbeobachtungen Flying Canyon - s/t These guys would have definitely rearranged my top 10 and 5. Anyone else discover any amazing 2006 albumns after the fact? Looking forward to hearing the new Birchville Cat Motel releases this year...

I've got some new releases for this year on my mind. Some great stuff coming up. Sightings - Through the Panama Mouthus - Saw A Halo (second release from them this year) Aufgehoben - Khora (not officially announced yet but I'm interviewing them for DOA and they told me it will be out later this year on Holy Mountain) Black Dice - Blown Load Venetian Snares - My Downfall (the sequel to Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett)

Wow, I swear that everyone and their dog is releasing an album this year. I am especially excited about that Aufgehoben and Sightings albums seeing as how I hadn't heard of 'em. And who couldn't do with another Mouthus album? No one thats who. Black Dice is likely a top 5er this year from what I have already heard and Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett was the best thing Venetian Snares has done. If all these guys follow through you could have mentioned half of my top ten of 2007!

Agreed. My three favorite Snares records are probably that one, Meathole, and Songs About My Cats.

I've been listening to samples of recent Sunroof releases Spitting Golden Zebras and Panzer Division Lou Reed and am pretty blown away. Best noise I have heard all year.

I just got Panzer Division Lou Reed but I haven't listened to it yet. I don't know if it could be better than the new Aufgehoben though. That shit is off the fuckin' hook! Wait til it comes out, I don't think it has a release date yet though.

Could one of you guys describe Aufgehoben. Are we talking harsh noise or more meditative/ambient textures? I'm not familiar with this artist at all so maybe you guys could give me a quick briefing. Thanks!

Aufgehoben is super harsh noise. It sounds like a mix of This Heat and Merzbow, but way more on the Merzbow side of things. I use This Heat as a reference because of the way they use an editing process of cutting up live jams and rearranging them afterwards to make the composition and they have a very good drummer (two actually). Unlike This Heat, there are no vocals. Their last record, Messidor, came out on Holy Mountain last year and their new one, Khora is coming out later this year. You won't find anything resembling ambience/meditative parts on their records. It's some of the most engaging and brutal noise you'll hear, if you're into that. They are head and shoulders above most of the other groups out there.

Sounds amazing! I love really percussive, harsh noise and especially Merzbow's schizophrenic static so I'm sure I'll enjoy Aufgehoben. Thanks jb.
