I'll admit to being a bit overly enthusiastic about them. I think it is pretty ridiculous to make such statements about being best of the year while being funny at the same time. It is more or less a just to get a conversation going i guess. So, let me revise: Possibly 'MY' album of the year in a year that is still awaiting new Animal Collective, Gang Gang Dance, Dirty Projectors, Angels of Light, Black Dice and so much more. I guess Raccoo-oo-oon is just in the current vein of what I am loving/wanting out of music at the moment. I think that the production enhances the record quite extensively despite treading on previously laid ground. All this leading to an always-too-soon-to-tell statement of over enthusiasm. Thats what message boards are for right? Well I apologize if I have mislead anyone but I will still give it my highest recommendation and I don't see any possible way that it wouldn't make it into my top 10. I like the name too. But, I am a geek.

Well ok. Raccoo-oo-oons new cd is my "favorite" of the year. I've been listening to it for about 4 or 5 months now and still love it as much as I did the first time. I'll agree with sicnarf, it's pretty much everything I've been looking for in music lately. I don't think I'm being overly enthusiastic about it though, it is honestly just my favorite of the year. Again, there could be another record this year that will surpass it, namely Animal Collective and Black Dice, but I really do doubt it.

That Blues Control record is very good. Have you guys heard their other album, Puff? Excellent stuff. On another note, I wasn't trying to dog you guys about Racc-oo-oon. I still like that record quite a bit. I'm way into the new John Wiese and Air Conditioning records right now. Definitely looking forward to the next Aufgehoben record, supposedly coming out late this summer or early fall. I think it's also going to be on Holy Mountain if I'm correct. That label is stepping their game up tremendously.

I just downloaded Puff yesterday, I like what I've heard so far a lot. I wasn't aware that Air Conditioning had a new one out, so I'll check that out. I've never heard of John Wiese either so I'll check him out too.

Excited for Aufgehoben. Just saw Gang Gang Dance last night with Mike Barr and it was seriously amazing. Talked to Tim from GGD and he said they aren't even done with the new record and are having problems recording it how they want to on their current budget. I hope it makes it out this year.

Have you guys seen the Gang Gang Dance Retina Riddim DVD that just came out? I'm trying to decide whether it's worth buying. The only problem is that I don't want to spend money on something that I'll only watch once and then put on the shelf.

I have the DVD but haven't watched it yet. I'll get to it and report back. There is a remix cd as well that is like a 20 minute mix of old material by one of the members. I like it enough but it isn't worth the whole purchase to me.

Speaking of Liars, their new record leaked today. I'm definitely not diggin it as much as Drum's Not Dead but we'll see. It sounds very schizophrenic. I've listened to it four times since I got it and parts of it are similar to Drum but the rest of it is all over the map and doesn't seem to mesh well together. I wouldn't call it bad, but so far it definitely isn't spectacular like I was hoping.

Yeah, I don't know what it is about there new cd, but I really just can't get into it, aside from like 1 or 2 songs, of course I definetely need to listen to it more. I'm glad they are so willing to change their sound, but I enjoyed Drums Not Dead much more.
Also JB, I really am digging the new Air Conditioning cd, especially the last track, which is awesome.
I just saw that Birchville Cat Motel is releasing a new cd this year, pretty excited for that.

...Have you heard their first two albums? If so, then you wouldn't mind this departure (atleast I know I prefer it). I've listened to this album atleast 12 times since the leak. That's why I said "Liars". it wasn't an accusation, it was a plug for my current sonic masturbation tool.

Yeah I pretty much like all of the previous Liars records, Drum's Not Dead is my favorite, but I think They Were Wrong So We Drowned got a raw deal and is a much better album than most is normally credited. I'm not saying the new Liars is a bad album by any means, but it lacks the focus that made the last one so powerful. It sounds more like a collection of songs than an actual album. Some of the tracks don't go together well to me. The second track sounds like something off of the last two Beck records, definitely my least favorite track on the record. I'm not writing it off by any means.

They Were Wrong So We Drowned is definately my favourite past record of theirs. I love Drum's Not Dead but it isn't as replayable and enjoyable as Drowned to me. So anyway, I haven't heard the new Liars...when is the street date?

recent additions to my catalogue: burning star core - blood lightning 2007: simply incredible. each song represents a particular spectrum of noise, ranging from heavy drone based to ambient. Track no. 4 reminds me of Axolotl. midnite snake - shaving the angel: psych freak-out at its best. in line with comets on fire, lightning bolt, acid mother temple. axolotl - memory theatre birchville cat motel - chi vampires birchville cat motel - three sparkling echoes raccoo-oo-oon - behold secret kingdom blues control - puff residents - meet the residents this heat - deceit listened to all of these albums at least once (and they all sound great), but really can't comment on them until i hear them some more.

Hey, most of those albums you just got are really really good cd's.I reccomend that if you enjoy This Heat- Deceit as much as I think you will, you should definetely check out there self titled album, which I think is even better than Deceit.

If you liked Deceit, I'd spring for the Out of Cold Storage box set. It has everything and is definitely worth the price of admission, however pricey.
