George Crumb's Black Angels will cause mass cringing. Schoenberg will do the same.

I'd say Mogwai, Boredoms, Butthole Surfers, Mothers of Invention... anything noisy that doesn't stick to 4/4 and is not conventional.

i could pretty much play anything un-mainstream to clear out my friends. that's how clueless my friends are about music. basically, if they've never heard it before, they won't like it.
thank goodness i've got people like you to talk to.

now wait a minute! we're talking music here! so music-wise, i've only met a handful of people who know as much about music as i do (trying not to sound too pretentious). i mean that they rarely venture out of their comfort zone. but i'm sure they're out there, somewhere.

outside of music, our coolness is intact Razzer

Surprisingly I thought the new Liars album would clear out the room but I put it on for my pop loving friend (meaning he loves good pop... like classic pop, he still tends to have good taste though) and he said "This is definately not in my spectrum... but I like this. A lot"

Any Sonic Youth song that Kim sings on completely turns off my lame friends.
"She is the worst singer EVER"

Some others:

Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt
Coltrane - Ascension (I dont even really care for it)
Man Man

All of my friends like Dungen because of it's Psychedelia... most of my friends listen to "Classic Rock" though. But I don't think I can get away with any SY, "it's too noisy!"/"This isn't music!"... pussies.

I think some of my friends might like Dungen, however, the Swedish lyrics can be a turn off for people who aren't very adventurous.

Absolutely anything. If I'm the one who pushes play, it wont be long before I hear crickets. People like THEIR music. Never SOMEONE ELSE'S music.

From my experience, Tom Waits annoyed many a friend. They can't get over the voice, unfortunately for them.

And for a genre of music, I'll go with electronica, particularly Fennesz, Tim Hecker and Keith Fullerton Whitman. All I hear from them is "this isn't music, it's radio static."

Lol, I thought you ment like a good CD for cleaning up to.

But whenever I want people to flee, I put on some early Tangerine Dream Razzer.

If it's not radio-friendly country, rap or "alternative" then my friends try to kill me.

They're open minded.

(except for my friend James... I threw him "We're Only In It For the Money", "Tears of the Valedictorian" and "Odyssey & the Oracle" last night and he was diggin 'em)
