!! I'm surprised because two months ago they said the album would come out early 2008! I hope they took the time to make an album as phenomenal as Antics

I sincerely hope they take a bigger artistic stride forward with this next one. I thought ToTBL was stunning, and Antics a suitable (but not groundbreaking) follow up. Definitely have high expectations for this third release...

I like Interpol quite a bit, but I think they definitely need to take some steps forward with their new record. Honestly I'm a little concerned that they're could be a one trick pony though. Paul Banks' vocals aren't exactly dynamic if you get my drift. I'm a little skeptical that they can pull off any other type of sound. Hopefully I'm proven wrong here.

Antics is much better than OK! Antics does get better in time, like wine. Yes, the critics told us all that TOTBL was much better, but they are really quite similar in quality. (This is all my simple opinion of course). Antics has some of Interpol's best songs: Evil, Take You on a Cruise, and C'mere.

I also don't think that Interpol was a one-trick pony. What is so bad about having "one sound". Lots of bands have a certain sound that they stick for a whole discography...

I've never been more than a lukewarm fan of Interpol, but I'll definitely give this one a listen.

I've got to agree with the statement that the vocalist is less than thrilling. He sounds like a robot.

Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.

I don't think he's less the thrilling, just that he's not very versatile. So far I've heard him do monotone crooner ("Take You on a Cruise") and monotone wailer ("Obstacle 1"). He's really only shown two gears thus far. I like Paul Banks, but I'm just not sure if he's dynamic enough for Interpol to really pull off a different sound.

True, but not usually bands that are a bit "arty" like Interpol. I mean sure, Rancid has been around for years but they're a band built to sound the same on every album. I think both of us can agree that certain types of bands are expected to evolve, while other genres are expected to stay the same. I think Interpol probably falls in the former.

I loved TOtBL but Antics never really did it for me. And every time I feel like I'm in the mood for Interpol I pop in TOtBL and it just annoys the hell out of me... I don't feel like it's aged well.

The problem I see with the "one sound" in this case is that:

1) It's very specific. Lots of other bands have "one sound", but that sound is a little broader in scope. Interpol's sound is "Joy Division-esque post punk".

2) It's not an original sound. I can let the Ramones off the hook for sounding the same record after record, but they pretty much invented that sound. I can't see Interpol aping Joy Division for another decade and having it pay off. The retro-New Wave movement was dead two years ago.

I liked both of Interpol's previous albums, but I think it was more that they brought back a style of music no one else was doing. Even though it wasn't original, it was a breath of fresh air at the time.

June 5th cannot come soon enough. As much as I loved 'Antics' though, I'm hoping this album is more in the vein of 'Turn On The Bright Lights'. It's hard to articulate exactly what i prefer about it, but the general mood of that album is more immersive and beautiful to me.

That's what I like to hear! The more you listen to Antics, the more you're affected.

I've been saying this for a while. Antics is just as good, if not better than Turn on the Bright Lights. Its not as dark and that quality always seems to equal better with critics. In this case, I say no. The songs are stronger overall on Antics. "Take You on a Cruise" is phenomenal.

However, nothing on Antics comes close to the coda on "PDA".

I feel the exact same way. For me, ToTBL captures some unnameable aesthetic that Antics simply didn't satisfy. Here's hoping for a grand third album (but the pessimist in me is secretly predicting Antics#2)

Yeah! Antics #2!

Another thing I prefer with antics is Paul Bank's clearer voice. He said himself that he tried too hard to sound alienated on TOTBL.

Antics is a better album than Turn on the Bright Lights. The latter is too disjointed, with poor offerings like that Stella... track. The former has a far more rounded sound, and includes Public Pervert.
