Anyone saying they like this new one but not so much with Yellow House is making a reversible comment. The two albums are virtually indistinguishable in terms of style and overall sound. If anything, Yellow House seems very much the superior album based on my initial impressions of this new one; and I like the new one.

Thought I would try and revive this thread since it's been dead for a month and a half. Not to mention I knew I was going to not care about the album at first, and have given it a rotation or two per week in the hopes that it would grow on me. Lucky for me, that worked, and I'm starting to really enjoy a lot of what this album has to offer. It's moved from outside my top 20 (when it leaked and my list was much smaller) to a top 10 of 2009 so far. Not to mention "Two Weeks" may actually wind up topping my current 3 favorite songs of the year, "My Girls," "Atlantic City," and "Daniel. So, now that we've all had a couple of weeks to digest this album even better, has it grown on anybody else as much as it did on me? Has it fallen out of favor for anyone? What are some things we like/don't like about this album? Personally, I feel the sequencing is awkward; I don't like the way the album closes. Also, it's difficult to get through to the end of the album for me, given that it seems so long. Removing two or three of the weaker songs would have helped me get through it more easily.

I'll give my thoughts in a couple of weeks when I get my hands on the physical, but I'll comment on what I have heard: "While You Wait For the Others" is just amazing live. One of the best songs I've heard this year for sure, probably second, next to Sufjan's take on "You are the Blood". "Two Weeks" is definitely the most poppy thing they've ever done [that I've heard, at least] and I'm really digging that. I've heard a crappy rip of the studio version, and I don't like it as much as the live version, but still great. Has anyone heard the remix of "Two Weeks" by Fred Faulk? ... I think that's his name... It's pretty cool.

Ah man... Am I seriously the only one that hasn't heard this album yet? Oh Well. Someone want to comment on where they think Veckatimest falls in relation to Yellow House and In Ear Park? ---------------------------- There's an ember in the rafters and it's gonna burn this whole thing down.

I didn't care for In Ear Park at all, and though Yellow House had a few great songs it was weighed down by a lot of boring stuff, otherwise. Veckatimest has more great songs than both those two albums combined, methinks. It's the first album by these guys that I mostly enjoy as an entire album. Knowing how well Yellow House was received, I expect that Veckatimest will end up being a major competitor for top MC score, alongside Merriweather Post Pavilion.

I absolutely love "Two Weeks" and "Cheerleader" is pretty great too. But the poor quality rip makes me want to hold out until a legit copy shows up at my door. Nonetheless, what I've heard is awesome, and I anticipate that I will be playing a lot of this album in June.

I actually thought "Cheerleader" was one of the more boring tracks. My favorites are "Two Weeks," "While You Wait for the Others," "All We Ask," "Ready, Able," and "Southern Point."

yellow house was much better in terms of sequencing. veckatimest has some cool tracks but they are few and far between.

High quality leak is surfacing the internet right now, it's 320kpbs and it sounds wonderful. Lots of great songs and moments. Man, I love Ed's voice.

This album is amazing. "Two Weeks", "Ready, Able" and "While You Wait for the Others" are early favorites. But the whole thing is pretty wonderful.

Important question as to my purchasing of this does the vinyl version of the album come with a free download of the tracks or not?

My vinyl copy arrived at my doorstep at 9:30 this morning (on a Saturday!) It's beautiful, gorgeous and spectacular. Thanks Grizzly Bear.

quote: I'm really beginning to like it. I don't know why I didn't at first. Same thing with MPP. Weird albums this year... Haha.
I think the reason I didn't care for it at first was because it lacks the pop hooks that I really enjoy in a record; this is part of the reason I much preferred MPP on first listen. Veckatimest may never be an album that I ever fall in love with, but I'm hoping that changes. But, it has managed to grow a lot on me - its moved up into my top 10 of the year, and I expect it to finish in my top 25 if not top 20.

HOLYEFF. Listening to this album now on their MySpace. I AM IN AWE. "Foreground" is giving me chills right now. I'm already in love with "Two Weeks" and "While You Wait for the Others" so ya... Excited, I'm seeing them on Tuesday! So I'll pick up the album after the show while I'm still on my Grizzly Bear-high, and I'll probably shut up for awhile on MC again.

Full disclosure: long-time fan here, since the bedroom quietness of Horn of Plenty. This music is something gloriously magical. I've played my vinyl copy a good three times now and I'm left speechless each and every time. I am so glad they took their time with this one because they've created something exceptional. The quality is remarkably pristine and the sounds they've crafted are both ingenious and completely enveloping. It's as if they've been able to put all of their strengths into one BEAST of an album. Yeah, this makes everything else unimportant. On a side note: if you can buy this on vinyl, please do. Two, thick LPs, that come with a booklet of photos of the band and friends on a hill. The artwork is impeccably coordinated and yes, the download is included. They've achieved the full aesthetic wonder and their time, money and effort has paid off. It makes sense why these guys were so upset that it leaked early because Veckatimest is flawless.

I'm listening to Horn of Plenty right now and making my way up to Veckatimest again. I've already found that I'm in awe of 5 of the 11 tracks. I'd say the least dense songs are the ones I'm in awe of. After I can swim through the other 6 and let them sink into my brain, I'm thinking this'll probably be one of my favourite records in my entire collection. I did hear Ed Droste comment on how they were going to beef up the artwork after it leaked so early, so I can't wait to get my hands on the physical.
