2010! that sucks. I guess I'll just have to collect the MM cds that I don't have. It would be cool for them to come out with a live album... do they sing good live? I don't recall ever hearing them live. Cuz some bands like fall out boy suck live. Modest Mouse isn't like, is it?

yeah, I'll have to check them out on youtube. I've seen the track list Baron Von Bullshit, but I've never listened to it. I didn't make the connection between the various track names being on other albums and a live cd. I guess I thought it was a "best of" album or something. Modest Mouse could come out with a "best of" pretty soon. They have enough albums. But they have so many good songs that it would be hard to incorporate all the best songs in 1 album.

A lot of bands with senior vocalists and musicians are great live because they've been doing it for a long time and don't use a lot computer voice enhancements on their songs like young bands do these days.

They should make one. Thing is, so many of their songs are sooo good, it's going to upset somebody. Haha.

So True. They probably should just do a live album with recent songs and mabye a fresh song to keep things new and entertaining. Or a concert DVD with interviews and behind the scenes and whatnot. That would be cool.
It's really hard to pick a favorite. I love everything they have put out but if I am forced to make a decision I would have to say Lonesome Crowded West. I don't know how people can say one reason they don't like it is because it is too long. I wish it was longer...
It's either Doolittle or Surfer Rosa, though Bossanova is not without it's charms.
Seriously, though, it's The Moon & Antartica, far and away in my opinion. They seemed like a slower Pixies with Tom Waits thrown in to me (hence the little jab above... i swear i like Modest Mouse), but M&A really cemented them as something MUCH greater than their influences, even though Lonesome is often cited as some kind of masterwork. It has some great songs, but also a lot of fat that could've easily been trimmed. Sure, it was "ambitious" as so many have labeled it, but i just consider it bloated.

DEFINITELY Lonesome Crowded West for me. The Moon and Antarctica is good, but doesn't hold up as well on repeated listens as Lonesome Crowded West. More great songs, less duds, better lyrics.
+ Keep looking up, 'cause it's a long way down

I really liked The Moon and Antarctica, though Good News had some great songs but only decent (someone described it as schizophrenic, which is fitting). Haven't really digested The Lonesome Crowded West evn though I need to

I love every Modest Mouse album, but my favorite is definitely The Lonesome Crowded West.
One thing about every MM album, they all have a couple of duds. For me, consistency is overrated. Give me an album with several amazing tracks and a couple of stinkers over an album with consistently good (but not great) tracks any day. Of course, consistently great is preferred, but only one album has achieved that for me. I'm about as far from a music snob as you can get, but there's almost always a track or two on even my favorite albums that I'd rather not listen to.

I wouldn't call Lonesome Crowded West Bloated persay, but I agree with Clevern. Moon and Antarctica is my favorite by a long shot. Not that I don't like the rest of their albums, they just don't stand up as cohesive albums as much as M and A.
