These are the five most essential YLT albums.
I'd put Electr-o-Pura over Beat Your Ass and Fakebook. It has some great tunes on it, including YLT's best song, "Tom Courtenay".

I am listening to that song...right...now. That's creepy. Obviously, I don't agree (since I just posted my top 5), but Electr-o-pura is a good album. Not that YLT has made any "bad" albums.
I was just listening to the "My Recommendations" over at last.fm. Some of it was laughable (Steve Miller? Give me a break . . . skip), but then suddenly I hear this voice that I've heard before but in a different context. "Stockholm Syndrome" from I Can Hear the Heart Beating is one of my top ten favorite YLT songs, but it's sung by James McNew. Well this particular track sounded a lot like that. With good reason. It's by McNew's side project DUMP. I've never heard of nor heard DUMP. So I clicked on the album icon and listened to 30 second snippets of the entire album, A Grown-Ass Man from 2003. Me likey. I'm going to have to track that down.

Much as I wish they had, they didn't. I was happy to hear "Little Honda", though my request for "Be Thankful for What You Got" didn't make it. Aside from their last release, the album most covered was Fakebook. They played an unreleased song that was covered by the garage-rock band, Chesterfield Kings. And I can't for the life of me track it down, and I thought I had all the Kings albums.

It's funny. Most people around these parts don't like Fakebook but I would rank it among the top 3 YLT releases-- and the "Little Honda" ep is ridiculous in it's goodness. They are a great cover band, rare for a non-ska band (lol!). Seriously, I've been feverishly working on my list of favorite YLT covers, and it is a difficult task. Stay tuned.

Popular Songs has re-introduced me to this band. Although I've always enjoyed Yo La Tengo, this album just made something 'click.' Right now I feel nothing but love for these guys and girl.
