I agree. That is a garbage statement. What exactly does eventually mean? I really have nothing to base a response on. I guess maybe if you listened to it 30 times is a row anything might start to wear a bit thin. Maybe it's because Sigur Ros takes some effort on the listener's part(unless you're going to sleep), which is one of the things I particularly like about them.

It's kind of a weird statement, because if it wears thin, it's probably not the most beautiful music in the world.
But, I'm assuming the critic (or whoever said it) feels the same way I do about Sigur Ros. They're fine in small doses. But their stuff starts to sound the same after awhile.

sigur ros are waaaay overhyped. i recall reading an article a couple years ago in which a woman described their music as being so beautiful it made her vomit. i thought agaetis byrjun was really nice, but people definatly exaggerate when they talk about how emotionally moving these guys are.
Hmm...I wouldn't call something a 'garbage statement' unless I saw it in context. Anything can be quoted out of context and seem meaningless or stupid. Just ask political campaign strategists.
I like Sigur Ros, but if you listen to them for a long time their music does start to blend into a sort of shapeless mush. Though, Agaetis Byrgun is a great album, I tend to enjoy () and Takk in spurts then quickly lose attention.

Uhh... are you in other people's heads, to see how emotionally moved they are?

You're right, "garbage" was a tad unnecessary, but context would definitely help.

i have found the opposite of what most have expressed.
time has served as the agent by which i gain greater appreciation for sigur ros. rather than being revealed as thin, or perhaps shapeless mush, time and detailed listening has shown sigur ros, to me, to be incredibly nuanced and creative in ways the other nuanced and creative bands i listen to can only strive for.
however - it doesn't make me do stupid crap, like make me think i can fly or that i'm an icelandic pixie or cause vomitting; it doesn't even make me cry (although i've never done this when listening to any music). it seems that the majority of critics have this nagging tendency to be complete douche bags. pay no mind.

Hokey Smoke, Rocky, really? I probably cried during at least a half-dozen songs from blinking lights and other revelations alone. I hope that doesn't make me a bitch.

The Stars Shine in the Sky Tonight almost made me the first time I listened to it, but I think that's the closest I've ever come...
But not sigur ros - haunting and undeniably creative but they stray far too close to new age meandering at times for my liking and I like my edges far sharper and more twisted - still, more calm and patient types than I might fall to pieces to such beautiful skygazing.
There are a few albums that can get me to the point of tears. Radiohead's 'Kid A' for some reason really gets to me at times. Also, Modest Mouse's song "gravity rides everything" can make me a wee bit too emotional. Sigur Ros creates some beautiful music, but I don't get wishy washy listening to it.

I don't think that the music Sigur Ros makes wears thin at all. Sometimes however i'm just not in the mood to invest 10 or so minutes of my life into one of their songs. Perhaps that is what whoever said that feels the same way.
I personally think that the music is rather beautiful at times; Ágætis Byrjun and more specifically "Ny Batteri" gave me chills the first, second, tenth time I heard it.
to get off topic a bit; who here has listend to their debut Von, its apparently rather hard to get a hold of and is over looked in favour of Ágætis Byrjun. I thought it was quite different from their other body of work but still well worth a listen.

Sigur Ros is underwhelming for a band that wants to be a revelation. Their intent is laudable, but how emotionally genuine they are is suspect. Far too studied to make an impact, in my opinion.
However, the intro on Agaetis Byrjun is nice. Neat underwater rumbling sound.
I would never insult Sigur Ros, they're one of my favorite bands, but for at least Agaetis Byrjun () I think that the criticism could be somewhat valid, though thin isn't the word I'd use. However, Takk... is in my opinion a flawless album, and in no way does it "wear thin."
