i just got 150$ today and im spending it tomorrow on cds. im probably going to get about 10. i just want some opinions on what i should check out. i love indie, but not TOO obscure. to give you some idea on what i like, im looking at getting the unicorns, of montreal, and interpol. thanks.
Spoon Arcade Fire The National Josh Ritter Animal Collective
Thanks for asking.
Oh, and my suggestion would be to not buy ten albums all at one time. It's not very respectful to a good album. It's like trying to take ten chicks out on a date at the same time. enjoy them one or two at a time.

never heard of either of those raving. might check them out.
to eggtweedy-havent heard much nick drake. have ALL six wilco albums. there very good. love joy division, have all their stuff.
no i havent heard much okervill. and i have kill the moonlight by spoon, and like it alot. im gonna get gimme fction from my uncle. and i have boxer by the national, and really like it too. i might get alligator tomorrow.
Get Alligator, It's a sure bet, if you have any interest in Indie music and The National especially.
And Okkervil River is great. I almost suggested them. They have a certain backwoods rollick to their old stuff. Stage Names is their newest, and probably closest to what you are used to hearing. But "Black Sheep Boy" is their Masterpiece, and if you can find it in the Deluxe Edition it's a great value too.

some loud thunder-clap your hands say yeah alligator-the national hissing fauna...-of montreal return to cookie mountain-tv on the radio mass romantic-new pornographers turn on the bright lights-interpol feels-animal collective
they didnt have any unicorns, not much libertines, and not the bloc party i wanted. i almost also picked up an iron and wine album, but decided not to. thanks for all the help guys.
Those are pretty good choices. I think given your interests you might have prefered "Strawberry Jam" to "Feels", but Animal Collective is pretty strong no matter what you get.
I'm curious what you think of "Some Loud Thunder". And also, you should say which one of these you think rates best. I don't know how I could have considered "Turn on the Bright Lights" and "Alligator" if I heard the two of them on the same day.

ok after listenin to some of both of them heres what i think-
I love the interest in Indie Music but it seems a bit rushed to rank 7 different albums only hours after getting them. I know you get first impressions and all, but I would need a bit more time. Curious to see if Alligator rises on the list though.

Seriously, 150 bucks you could probably get a really nice 1.9 % return on your investment over the next 36 months or so. Of course, the cost of living will probably outpace that

Just go the Dischord website - great freakin' people at that label, by the way - and order up a couple of the early Fugazi live shows, perhaps their first D.C. show on 9-3-87 - still only $8. While you're there, pick up a Slant 6 album. If you're unfamiliar with them, do it anyway. Good stuff.

You know what I would've done with it? I would have invested half of it in low risk mutual funds, and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities...
