I am having trouble finding new music and it bothers me. It seems like i've purchased all the great indie albums of the 90s/early 00s and now all i can do is wait for good quality new music to be released. The only problem is that I don't see very much good quality music out this year.
Some bands I really like are Pavement, silver jews, wilco, elliott smith, broken social scene, arcade fire, wolf parade, guided by voices, flaming lips, modest mouse, yo la tengo... pretty much every sort of "mainstream" indie i've listened to and i'm just trying to find more quality music from the 90s or this decade and i'm having trouble. PLEASE help!!!!
I'm of the opinion that everyone who likes pavement should listen to the Fall, because Stephen Malkmus copped a hell of a lot from mark e Smith. But that fails on the 90s criterion....another older band - the Modern Lovers. Their self titled record is timeless.
Polvo - Crazy phrase lengths, but they avoid the pitfalls of math rock with damn fine melodies to boot. And they rock the fuck out.
Unwound - In the same general area as polvo - although unwound is a bit louder and more intense.
Bedhead - Simple yet gorgeous songs. You should definitely hear their song "More Than Ever."

If you think you've exhausted all the great music in the 90s and 00s, you can always go back further. There was a lot of excellent rock music recorded in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Check out some of the influences of the bands you like.

I believe the '50s, with Elvis, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, several R&B greats and a few one/two/three-hit wonders ain't too shabby either.

Top 5 most underrated indie albums that Im pushing at the moment: fleeing new york - a ok [three piece indie rock band that will make you dance regardless!] the essex green - cannibal sea [songs that get stuck in your head, in a good way; a cross between the delgados & camera obscura] leaves - the angela test [this album will push the boundaries of your emotions leaving you awestruck and gasping for more] moonbabies - june and novas [eclectic blend of music made by crazy hippies, intelligent, original and highly interesting] seafood - paper crown king [current album with a good mix of catchy songs and thoughtout musical journeys, my #1 album for 2006]
Would you like lies with that?

Those dudes are pretty good, I suppose.

I don't honestly believe this is Grant Lee Buffalo's greatest, but if you've never heard/seen it, do yourself a favor. If you have, appreciate the good sound. Paul Kimble's bass on this song almost rivals Grant Lee's tremendous vocals and guitar. Besides, this site has more of their "Good Shit". Specifically, I recommend "Fuzzy", "Truly, Truly" (although that one's done by an impostor), "Honey Don't Think", "Testimony". If they had them, I'd go with "Dixie Drug Store" (maybe my vote for the only song which can rival a Poe poem), plus too many, but I'll come back if anybody seems to like them (aka: acts normal.)

Maybe I'm being pushy or maybe nobody pays attention to me. What's the vote on "Mockingbirds", the song?

Have you bought Dismemberment Plan's Change and Emergency & I? In terms of 90s-early00s indie rock, they really blew me away (see also: Brainiac)
Well, I hate to sound like a broken record but... I have to give it a shot.
I'll admit that I don't know many of the bands you list, but if you're into more offbeat music I can't recommend TV On The Radio's Return to Cookie Mountain more. It's not really possible to lump it into one genre like indie or alternative, but it will never leave you bored. If you like genre bending, oddly poetic music, this is right up your alley.
Well, if you're into indie that borders on mainstream you must check out Spoon. Gimme Fiction is my favorite and Kill the Moonlight is solid as well. Most people here think that Girls Can Tell is their best, but I haven't been able to find myself a copy.
Check out My Morning Jacket - Z.
Also, if you like Wolf Parade, then check out Sunset Rubdown. Spencer Krug from WP is the main man, and their album Shut Up I Am Dreaming is amazing and in my opinion much better than Apologies...and I love Apologies.
Cheers,

When it comes to Spoon, I'm torn between Kill the Moonlight and Gimme Fiction. I think the latter's a little tighter and more complete, but it's still pretty new, and I want to give it a little more time. I can't recall "everyone," or even a handful, calling Girls Can Tell "their best."

I myself lean towards Girls Can Tell as their best. But then, I haven't heard Kill the Moonlight...
------ Aren't there any girls out their who like good music? I need to and want to meet them. My favorite bands are Overkill River, The Nife, Songs:Ohio, and Nuetral Milk Hotel. Please let me know if your into indy music and like to go to show's and drink beer's and makeout.
