Thanks, everyone. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you, Chamberk. I meant to really think through the proper answer, but it's hectic sometimes. Then I forget, and I haven't listened to them again since my post. I'll second what my Bud said, and I'll try to listen really intently this weekend and think harder about Of Montreal. Then again I might get caught up again...but that doesn't mean I don't love you guys, and I am certainly not trying to ignore you. Red Face Cool Eeker

My bottom line is that the The were pioneers who are being reloved again (knowingly or not) in 2007. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the three albums I mentioned. I hope I don't steer anybody wrong.

I only know "Uncertain Smile". Isn't that supposed to be The The's best song?

That and "This is the Day" are my faves, so that's why I recommended Soul Mining first.

Not to change the subject Wink but after listening to Icons, Abstract Thee, I finally gave Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? a fair listen and it has officially kicked my ass. I'm jumpin on the band wagon and put it in my top 5 of the year so far.

And my top 5 is lookin' just as generic as everyone else's, but it's ok because all the albums are so solid that it's understandable.

I fail to comprehend how someone can suddenly "get" Hissing Fauna. Has there ever been a catchier album?

For the record, I don't like the EP...But do I like Hissing Fauna? Is there even a point to answering that question?

I didn't fail to get it, I just listened to it while doing other stuff and didn't pay attention to it... in order to fully enjoy an album I hvae toa ctually sit down and listen (like most). I hadn't sone that until recently, so that's why I'm just now jumping on the band wagon.

Just "good?"

Is Of Montreal indie-rock, indie-pop, dance-indie, indie-dance-pop-electronica ???? I know there are subcatagories that cover this stuff.

Hmmm, tough question goathouse. I always lazily classed them as an Indie Pop group. Their latest album has plenty of different sounds. Whatever you feel it is, is good enough for me.

Personally, I would go as far as calling it Neo-Psychedelic, maybe even Indie-Pop/Dance--those all fit. Then again, the guitar is prevalent on a lot of tracks so maybe Indie Pop/Rock with styles of dance and psychedelia?

While we're on the topic, has anyone discovered anything else like this in 2007? For instance, I find that, if I'm trying to make a cohesive playlist, and limiting it to 07, Of Montreal doesn't mesh well with much else. I mean, it kinda goes well with Spoon and Justice (both upbeat and dancey, like Of Montreal), but I can't find much else. Any suggestions?
