Most of their earlier stuff isn't as funky, but their last two albums are solid. Before that my knowledge is hazy, though I intend to check out "The Gay Parade" soon.

First, there is nothing wrong with you either_or (cool name by the way.) You just don't like electronic based music, like you stated. I can't speak for everyone that does like it, but I do like their new album for many reasons. The lyrics have immense depth and substance for a "pop" album, the music is instantly catchy and the melodies are killer. It starts with a kick, the eleven minute song in the middle might be the best of the year and it ends with a strong finish. I didn't think I would like this album as much as I do, but it is one of the best and is firmly in the #2-4 spot on my current list.
----- If you don't love me, I'm sorry.

i can dig some electronic stuff, not a lot, but some. in this case i think it's just too hyperactive for me, that and i can't get into his vocals at ALL. Something like this is much more palatable however I also think part of my problem is that i don't dance

It truly is a hyperactive album, and that's one of the reasons I love it. You might like some of their more standard indie pop from their last albums (Sunlandic Twins, Satanic Panic in the Attic - two of my favorite albums of the past few years)

Ok, I don't really understand the distinction you're making. First of all, Hissing Fauna is not "electronic" music. The Knife, ok, electronic, but of Montreal? It's absolutely guitar based. There is nothing on "The Past is a Grotesque Animal" that couldn't have been on the first Velvet Underground album. Second, what's the difference between Requiem for OMM2, and anything on Hissing Fauna, other than a difference in mood? Kevin Barnes is desperate in Hissing Fauna (it is a breakup album) but it doesn't seem to me any more "hyperactive" than Satanic Panic or Sunlandic Twins. There's nothing "wrong" with you if you don't like it, of course. But I don't understand the criteria you are using.

So I just got done listening to the new album for the first time. Fairly solid pop album I suppose, but honestly if I'm in the mood for this type music 9 times out of 10 I'd rather stick in a Unicorns album or something. It's also a little long winded for my taste in pop albums.

Has anyone gotten the new EP? It's like their other stuff (it also has two of the songs from Hissing Fauna), but it's pretty good.

To be honest, the EP kind of reminded me of their older stuff, except for the 10-minute song. It definitely acts as a nice companion piece to the album.

"No Conclusion" was on Hissing Fauna, as was "Voltaic Crusher", if you bought the album on iTunes.

I personally think the album is perfect as is. It's easily my #1 of the year right now, and if you added or took away anything it wouldn't be as good...

It's always been part of the album for me, and they're fantastic songs too - and I rate it highly on my albums of the year.

The track 'City Bird' for example is a beautiful folk song, which stands out alot from the other poppier songs. Not that I've heard much of it, but apparently 'Sunlandic Twins' is pretty average.
It's not their best, but Sunlandic Twins has some extremely good songs. "This Party's Crashing Us" and "Wraith Pinned to the Mist" are two of the best indie pop songs I've ever heard.
"So Begins Our Alabee" and "Requiem for OMM 2" also.

I have to say this album is incredibly creative, but is mostly attractive for its pure sugar content. Their is lots of nutritional value if you dig deeper and listen more closely, but that pop hooks were what got me into the album. And I just can't imagine how a song as good as The Past is a Grotesque Animal was written, that kind of genius doesn't make its way into a pop song very often.
i couldnt agree more with the last sentance. so far this is my years favorite release. and honestly i don't think it will be topped.

I'm with you there. This and Menomena are pretty close, but this is the best album this year and will be tough to top. I hope Interpol and some others give it a good shot, though.

Love Neon Bible. But, imo, Hissing Fauna is a better album. And, The Past... is an incredible song.

I love them both, but NB wins because I can play each of the songs in my head by heart.
