Wow. Finally listened to the entire two albums in their entirety. Definitely didnt realize how good Deerhunter was. Never really paid much attention to Cryptograms, although I did like the EP.

I don't think Weird Era is better than Microcastle. I doubt I would have liked it if it had been released on its own. However, as a continuation or even a companion to Microcastle, it is very strong, and not only showcases their abilities as a band, but also brings back that bit of abstraction found in Cryptograms that was lacking in a standalone Microcastle. That being said, I'm definitely glad they included it and gave it such a prominent role in the packaging and the liner notes, giving it the double album feeling, rather than just a bonus and making it one of my favorite albums of the year.

Too bad you already posted your list, and didn't include it!

Their new EP, Rainwater Cassette Exchange, is another great release by this band. Bradford Cox is easily, one of the hardest-working musicians in music and the quality of his music never suffers because of it.

This new EP is a short and sweet collection of summery pop and has enough of those textured touches to keep fans asking for more. With Lotus Plaza's album and now this, it looks like yet another strong year for Deerhunter.

You think there will be another Atlas Sound album this year? Microcastle was leaked for so long that it seemed like it has been forever since a Deerhunter release up until this nice EP. Solid fun. I hope their next LP isn't like this though...I need a Cryptograms II!

(just kidding. but not really)
