personally I think its a top 5 album for me, one of Snaith's best. of course I still listen to his music (up in flames and the milk of human kindness) a lot so maybe I'm a little biased b/c I adore his psychedelic and quite awesome music.

I like it a lot too, I feel it dies down a little in the middle, but it still is a great record. It'll most likely be in my top twenty, maybe higher. As for his other records, I don't know why, but I never could get into them. I always liked his sound a lot, but something just seemed a bit off. With Andorra I think it finally clicked with me (or him) because I like it a lot.

I really like all of his work, and Andorra is no exception. Even though the album seems poppier and less experimental than Milk... I don't see that as necessarily a bad thing. This record just drips with that honey-sweet nostalgia of days past. There is vague melancholy and wonderful arrangements to be disected, which is par for the course considering the aural treats Dan has served up in the past. I've only listened to the full album once so far and these impressions might change but for now I'm really enjoying the record (especially the somewhat darker second half).

beautifully written! I think that is why i love this album just because of that nostalgic sound, it takes me back to a time when I wasn't even alive. which makes me more alive. and the second half, especially Niobe is the real strength of the album.

I've said this already in another thread (can't remember which one though...), but I think Andorra starts and ends well, though it REALLY lags in the middle. Nevertheless, "Melody Day" and "Sandy" are lovely, but "Niobe" is the clear standout for me -- one of my favorite songs from Snaith EVER.

This one's getting mixed reviews. But hey, I'll take a pretty good instrumental/electronic over a pretty good pop-rock album any day. Good rock is easier to find because there's so much.

I've only been recently listening to this new one and I like it a lot. There are some great sounds and some nice psychedelia on here. It's a pretty great album.

It's fun and sunny and features some great melodies, but it isn't nearly as diverse as some of my favorite records (particularly Sunset Rubdown and Of Montreal). Each song has too much in common with the others, in my opinion.
That's not always a bad thing Spenc, but in this case I agree with you. Another thing about this album is that, as has been mentioned in reviews, the process of the album's contruction is, to me, distractingly apparent and takes some of the mystery out of it. It is, however, an excellent listen for any aspiring Fruity Looper.
i gave this album a spin after hearing people here praising it. i didn't even finish it cuz i couldn't stand it. i despise all the layers of harmonies. i just can't stand that type of thing. which is why i didn't like Panda Bear either...or don't like Pet Sounds
but that's just me

Yessir. I've never been there either, but I will be a lot soon. Caribou, Prefuse 73, The Postmarks, Lymbyc Systym, Baron Von Bear, APPLES IN STEREO(!!!), and Dr. Dog.
Funny story: I was listening to Andorra on an ipod-esqe device the other day all the way through for the first time, and unbeknownst to me, the album ended and the next album in the disk drive started. Suddenly, I was thinking, "Man, what a crazy stylistic shift this album is taking!" Turns out I was listening to the new album by Crowded House! Incidentally, their voices are really similar.
