I read a glowing review of this band and have since then been on the lookout for this album. Though i believe it is only a UK release at the moment (strange because they're from the US), i was simply wondering if this band deserves any of the hype i have seen for it.

I believe one review (from a credible source) gave their new album a near-perfect score and compared it to both Radiohead and Modest Mouse. Strange.

Am i missing out? Or is my search futile because they aren't any good? Please let me know.

The Radiohead comparison is mostly because he sounds and sings so much like Thom. He doesn't just sing like Thom, he sings like he wants to sing like Thom. It's more or less awesome music, if you like stadium britpop. I haven't heard enough of their records to make a final judgment on the band.

Okay, so would a MUSE comparison be apt? Because if that's the case, i won't waste my time with this anymore. I hate Muse with a rabid passion and anything that sounds remotely like them is something i will definitely not like in the least bit.

It sucks that you hate Muse in the same way, but I can live with completely agreeing with you on at least that point. Just thinking about Muse puts me in a bad mood.

No, I wouldn't say they're particularly like Muse. They're not Radiohead brilliant either, but I think of post-Radiohead music this way:

When they suck, they either suck toward Muse or suck toward Coldplay. If there's any sucking going on with Envy, and I discern very little, it would be toward the Coldplay thing. A little bit sentimental, a little bit wide-eyed and geared toward mass-consumption. But not pompous, nauseating, delusional and pathetic like Muse (I don't know why "delusional" comes to mind, but it really does with them - I guess because the music gives the impression that Muse think they're pretty awesome)

I'm glad that so many don't buy into Muse. Gross.

I can deal with a Coldplay kind of sucking if it's at least tempered with some redeeming qualities (which i assume it is by your description).

But does it sound like Mew? They suck in a definite Muse kind of way to me, and they also had all these comparisons to Radiohead floating around (i just heard Muse with the terrible drum sound and synth-lines).

And i have never willingly listened to an entire Muse song or spent a dime on anything affiliated with Muse. That is how much i hate that band.

I'm listening to their myspace right now, and it sounds pretty good to me. I could definitely see Coldplay comparisons, but the singer sounds nothing like Chris Martin. (He sounds a lot like Thom Yorke, though. "Party Dress" especially.) I've never heard Muse so I can't say anything about that.
