While not exactly tailored to the bands you listed, I have to recommend the Silver Jews.
I thought American Water was even better than In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which is also amazing.
I guess I'm a fourth for Gimme Fiction. The first half of the album just puts it a cut above their earlier work.
