Although, the Artic Monkeys are terribly overrated. I find their word completely boring and undercooked. A-HA, on the other hand, rules.

As far as animated bands go I would have to place A-HA right near the top.

i just stumbled upon the back and forth insults that this part of the forum consists of (i missed all of the deleted posts). angelo you got to stop responding to all the trolling blackgravel is throwing at you, it makes you seem immature and unintelligent. just let blackgravel make an ass out of himself (which he seems very adept at), and if it really bugs you that much then message the mod's.

as far as overrated bands i would say spoon is pretty overrated.

I'm enjoying myself, actually.

Spoon is not overrated, they're awesome.

I listened to the entirety of Weirdo Rippers. I thought it was okay, but generally overly noisy and unfocussed. Now I've listened to the better part of Nouns and I'm running into the same problem. If you strip away the distortion, they are a very basic, adequately skilled duo. The White Stripes kill them for virtuosity, and they don't need to fill their tracks out with feedback loops to make them sound complete. And yet, all the press I can find says they are the most amazing band ever. I don't get it. The way I see it, My Bloody Valentine did this a whole lot better and earlier. Kevin Shields is a living legend, while at best, Nouns is a 3/5. Anyone with me?

Absolutely.

My turn: Interpol have made like, 2, maybe 3, almost memorable songs in their entire career. Their vocal hooks are boring and repetitive. The most credit I give them is the bassist and the guitarist sometimes do something interesting together, like that little bit of interplay in Obstacle 1. Anyone with me?

This is hilarious. Well played, EricG.

Re: No Age-
Live they're ok but I've seen one man bands who put on a better show. Weirdo Rippers was good but I haven't bothered pulling it out since last year. Nouns is just meh. Everything about No Age is average, so I'd say I'm in agreement.

I'll agree with Interpol also. They put out one good, kinda boring album (Turn On the Bright Lights) and then put out utter trash. No thanks.

These are both bands which belong to two scenes full of much better music.

I'll fifth(?) No Age being overrated I gave nouns several listens thinking I was missing something, only to wonder why I wasted so much time.

The Sex Pistols. Even if it is punk music, Sid Vicious couldn't even play his instrument. And alot of their songs sound the same. Nothing truly intelligent about their political agenda. It boggles the mind how The Sex Pistols could get so famous yet Crass was left in the cold.

Why did i miss all this ridiculous behavior and not get to be a part of it? Man, i like people fighting on the internet, it gives me something good to laugh at.

I think the Hold Steady are incredibly overrated. That said, i think they're amazing, but i'll take the Replacements any day of the week over HS.

Oh man, I don't want to start a battle, but i think Grizzly Bear is overrated. Also great (I see potential more than anything), but i don't think Yellow House was as amazing as others think it was.

Interpol definitely is overrated... Did anyone see that they had the #3 album of the decade so far according to pitchfork? Turn on the Bright Lights doesn't belong anywhere near Kid A in my opinion.

I especially liked the little comment by (i don't remember who, it was amidst the battle and it was only a sentence long) stating that all bands are either under- or over-rated. I have a similar way of thinking, and some bands definitely can be both. Like the Shins i feel are both overrated and underrated. I believe the indie crossover bands are the ones that most likely are both under/over rated because they get this large fanbase (of "followers" or whatever you want to call them... normal people?) that for some bizarre reason alienates the die-hards. In turn, the geeks distance themselves (i never would've seen Modest Mouse when they blew up, for example) while their fanbase explodes.

I have no beliefs on "true" fans because i think anyone can be a "true" fan, so don't interpret it that way.

I have an idea of what a "troll" is on message boards, but am unclear. I have this feeling that i might be a troll. Am i a troll?

I wouldn't say you're a troll... trolling is usually stating negative opinions to get a rise out of people.

Hm... well i think i have some negative opinions, but i'm not into bumming people out.

And the Walkmen were/may become with their new album incredibly overrated. I don't think they will ever record something as fantastic as "The Rat;" when i saw them live, that was the only song i actually enjoyed hearing live. And man are they motionless and boring onstage.

I think Beck is pretty overrated. I mean, c'mon, his output is way too scattershot to warrant all the drooling over him (though i enjoy the new one very much, thank you).

Huey Lewis was overrated.

Dexys Midnight Runners were overrated for a brief moment (I'm talking about when people thought it was cool to like them again a few years ago).

I think Panda Bear is slightly overrated... But great nonetheless.

Animal Collective are underrated. Yeah, you heard me, UNDER, not over.

I can't believe no one has said Morissey is overrated. He makes me want to stick shards of glass in my eyes, and the only saving grace for the Smiths were the fact that he was more pissed off then and had Johnny Marr playing guitar (The Smiths aren't overrated, just Morissey).

I always thought the Cure were SOOOOOOOO overrated. I hate Robert Smith, he annoys the hell out of me.

I had no idea that Morrissey was getting glowing reviews from press/fans. He makes decent albums, but nothing like when he was the Smiths. He makes you want to stick shards of glass in your eye??? His lyrical/singing style is essentially the same as it was twenty-five years ago.

They opened for the Strokes in Louisville during the Room On Fire Tour. Nobody was paying any attention to them during their set, which was boring, so the lead singer threw a hissy fit as they were leaving the stage and the Strokes proceeded to cut jokes on him throughout the night.

I wouldn't say that to Patrick Bateman

see, by overrated do you mean a lot of ppl like them? or do you mean ppl that actually know about music like them, and you just dont get them? because obviously i hate fallout boy, green day, linkin park etc. but as for bands that ppl on this forum seem to enjoy, ive almost always liked them. last year, i felt lcd soundsystem was very overhyped, but sounds of silver would still make my top 15 maybe even top 10.
