I actually haven't heard the debut. I listened to just "The Funeral" and was unimpressed given the amount of raves that song alone had inspired, so I figured the rest of the album was probably so-so as well. I got this one out of curiosity, though, and "Is There A Ghost" is seriously an amazing song.

I still listen to Funeral a lot. I loved the song, but the album was weak on songs. Great Salt Lake is good, but the rest just drift off. I sometimes still listen to the album though, start to finish, in the background. I'm looking forward to the new album. I like "Is There A Ghost".

No Goathouse, it's fine to not like things, even if they are "good". I could see how someone could not like 'If There's A Ghost', it's less a strong song, and more a promise of life from a band we all feared might die too quickly. But 'The Funeral' is still an amazing song. You probably just overplayed it, and over analyzed it, and over discussed it with everyone that was overtalking about it.

They had a slow, acoustic version of this song on the internet last year. I thought it was the best song by them even though it wasn't on the album. Did any BOH's fans hear this version, and what did you think? It made my top 10 songs list last year, but nobobdy else mentioned it.

LOL. Alright bub. Let me explain.
This song is like one verse-line repeated over and over again. The song goes from quiet and boring, to loud and boring at the drop of a hat. Quite impressive there. There's absolutely nothing interesting going on in the background. I hear a simple guitar arpeggio and the typical overdose of cymbals (BOH trademark). It's a very, very simple song with no mystery to it. As an introduction to the album (this is obviously going to be a "relationship album") it's fine. But as a single free-floating entity, it's nothing special whatsoever and I dare you to out-explain me into being "wrong".
Just to be sure, which song are we discussing at the moment Goat? If it's "The Funeral" (as it seems from your description) you are definitely overanalyzing. Sugary, simple, talentless, unimaginative, yes. But it sounds so good and makes you want to drive a car really fast.

No, silly. We're talking about "Is There A Ghost". I love "Funeral", I just got sick of it, and found it not to have as much of a shelf-life as say "Marble House" or "We Share Our Mother's Health" from the Knife album.
I've given the new album a few good listens, and I'm now listening to the first album. I'm going to say now that I think the new album is even better...
Then again, it could be that I just heard it first.

wow, i really like it. more organic and looser than their debut, which is great, as bands can sometimes be a bit overambitious in the studio after a successful debut. i'm pretty happy with this after a few cursory listens.
