you know that irresistably catchy song that you can't get out of your head yet love every second of the after taste still swarming around in your head?? and then you play it for your friends and they don't like it but its so good that nothing really bothers you anyway....
mine would have to go to
Tom Courtenay - Yo La Tengo, catchiest song ever recorded and puts Beatles' pop to shame and Beatles pop is extremely good
I think mine would have to be "Fancy Claps" by Wolf Parade. I absolutely adore this song. That speed synth break down in the middle is one of the coolest moments in any song. But it doesn't seem like most people who are into to Wolf Parade generally list "Fancy Claps" as one of their best.

yes. go wolf parade. When I got to see them they went straight from you are a runner to fancy claps, and the segue was magnificent. But for sheer catchiness, I think I'll have to go with submarine #3 off of the starlight mints' debut. The combo of the string entrance with the wacky surf guitar is classic. "If you pull me apart, don't swallow my heart." Indeed.
Pretty crazy, I didn't realise that The Apples in Stereo and Wolf Parade both had a song called "Shine A Light." According to the Allmusic Guide there are several other groups with songs that share that title as well.

Yeah, the Constantines had a pretty good song (and album) with that title a few years ago as well.

Ohhh yeaaaaahhhhh....that's right The Constantines do have an album/song with that title. This almost seems like another thread topic in itself. "Bands That Share Song or Album Titles."
I used to listen to that song about 3 times a day the guitar, shall we say , "raucous" i like it a lot
another one of my favorites is ELT by Wilco, although its heard best following Via Chicago, but yea its so good that its probably my favorite song of their's and normally the favs from specific bands are the thought-provoking, lenghty epics and wilco has a lot of thoughs.
Since you're on about Wilco, how about Kamera? It's definitely poppy and catchy. Sunny music, great guitar solos and the end drags on for a long time and I love it.
Another is Who Could Win a Rabbit by Animal Collective. So poppy. It sounds like Simon & Garfunkel on mushrooms and speed.
I also love Grounds for Divorce by Wolf Parade. I love the "you look like a newlywed" line. Very poppy as well. Isn't that what we're talking about. Indie pop songs that just "do it"?

It's funny you said that about Animal Collective's "Who could win a rabbit?" because I've always described it as Crosby, Stills & Nash (at least the vocal harmonies) on waaaayyy too much acid.

I have to add "Get Yourself Together" by Tahiti 80. It's completely glossy, borderline-dumb pop, but I'll be damned if it doesn't get me going like nothing else.

Crosby, Stills & Nash on waaaayyy too much acid must be a lot of acid. I wonder how many of their songs were done when they weren't on acid (or some other form of mind "enhancing" drug.)
