Well I'm just through with my first listen of Menomena's new album and I have to say I'm sorta blown away. That's not to say I love every track but I can say that every track has it's own sound ,their technique is pretty original, and the use of dynamics is really impressive, especially on Wet and Rusting and Evil Bee. Anyone out there hear it?
Wow, it's pretty damn good... I'm listening to it right now. I'm shocked, it's nearly better (maybe even better) than the new Of Montreal CD which has been on at my house for the past 2 weeks constantly. This is just superb.

I guess I could ask where to find it now, but I suppose I'm so unhip and not-computer-savvy that I don't deserve a leaked album!! Anyway, I was just going on over at another thread about how I like to wait until the CD comes out rather than catch a song here and there on myspace and so forth, so I can't go looking for leaks now . My problem is that I had new music on the mind THIS Tuesday, however my Clap Your Hands Say Yeah early release link (via pre-order) still won't work, so now I have nothing and need a fix. I know, I know, break out the violins.

it's probably not as great as their first, but it's equally interesting, and, occasionally, just as strangely catchy. which means it is awesome, and i'm pumped about listening to it for the years to come. i wish i could be in portland for their first post-release show, which will include a 25 person choir, or somesuch. sounds very interesting...i love this band

Checking out the free streaming that Hophead found (thanks a bunch) and I can't help but notice that the lead singer's voice sounds very similar to Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio.

I'm streaming it now (I listened to it several months ago) and I still think it sucks. I was a big fan of I Am the Fun Blame Monster too. I wanted another album in that style. This one sounds disjointed and hookless.

Their last album I thought was a really emotional sounding album despite it being described as a sort of oddball of fun. This just sounds like quirky indie rock by the numbers. Geez, when is Spoon gonna release another album and renew my faith in indie rock?

I don't hear the "indie rock by the numbers" at all. I think this is a hugely creative album. There are so many hooks that I'm hearing as well. This is still very fresh to my ears, and I'm in the honeymoon phase, but jeez, this could easily be better than anything I heard in 2006. Easily, by a long shot.

I don't know if worlds have collided, but I'm with RL on this one. I've given this a few spins now, and I'm not exactly sure why you guys find this album so amazing. It's not bad (the first track is alright), but I don't hear anything I haven't heard on dozens of indie rock albums in the past decade.
I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I'm just curious as to what you guys find so incredible about it. Am I missing something?

I have to disagree with the whole "indie rock by the numbers" comment completly. I don't see anything about this album as being "standard indie rock". The only song on hear that comes close to fitting that mold is Rotten Hell, which is still a good song regardless. This is actually one of the more creative and interesting albums I've heard in years. I don't understand how people can cite their reason for not liking this as it being too standard. I'm beginning to like Friend and Foe more than anything last year or the year before.

What's up eric, haven't seen you in a while. I agree with both you and RL that this album is hard to follow and like RL said it, well disjointed. I have streamed it 3 times already and dont see anything special yet.

this is not some four piece band, the next in the long line of blog bands who play the same three chords, sing the same types of songs, and use the same exact sound pallete as the previous and soon-to-come flavors of the month. so...i guess i just don't understand that comment. they way the continually breakdown song/structure/and even occasionally language is fairly different from most of the other bands that have and will get similar reviews/scores.
