i think your question is a little too vague, and could be answered in any of a million different ways.

i think what makes an album "good" is its resistance to descriptions of why exactly it is "good". at least, attempting to come up with a formula for a good album seems like a futile effort...if i could engineer said formula, i would have released about a dozen albums by now lol.

i guess i'm saying it's an interesting question, but you could just as easily find individual album topics elsewhere and debate what you like about them on one of those threads and probably get a much larger and more appropriate response, since not all albums are "good" for the exact same reasons.

Really? I thought he did a great job describing the question. It was brief and too the point.

I gave up on the question. I'm not sure why though...

I had asked a question, then gave up and erased it. I love that I'm getting more replies now that there's not a question, as opposed to when there was one.

A hyphen is a separator that connects. But in our case, there is nothing to connect.

What existentialist brilliance!

Note: Normally I would write a philosophy essay but I have to study for finals so someone else take up my staff.

I was thinking maybe that was the title of the new Sigur Ros album.

The original question was, "What Makes an Album Good?"

I went onto talk about whether or not how soon the vocals appear, the positioning of the tracks, etc. really made a difference. Using Modest Mouse's "The Moon and Antarctica" as my example. How the vocals appear before 30 seconds on 13 of the 15 songs, and if that made the listener more inclined to listen. And how the "The Cold Part, The Stars are Projectors, and Alone Down There", slowed down the momentum of the album, and if that made the album worse.

It sounds like a good topic, but maybe more General Discussion than indie?
