hey! I need some help finding some indie albums (preferably from 1990s-present)that really rock out! I'm talking about albums that have awesome guitar riffs and songs that make you pull out an air guitar!
I found that many of the albums that are posted here often sound very alternative and electronic. I am hoping that maybe there are some recent indie albums out there that simply rock the good ol' fashioned way. I'm looking foward to your posts! Thanks! |

The best possible option is The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America
It's got some heavy riffage. Listen to Stuck Between Stations and you will be sold. Enjoy! |

The Hold Steady are my recommendation also. Anything by Dino Jr. or Built To Spill too.

Try the Hot Snakes or any of the bands that Rick Froberg or John Reis have ever been in (ie: Rocket From the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Pitchfork). Actually, I think the Hot Snakes' drummer (I forget his name) was in Delta 72, which might also be up your alley.

kinda sugary, but it definitely rocks too. And I think it rocks in the old fashioned way you're talking about. Tragic ending for these guys - I'll let you figure it out for yourself, unless somebody else really wants to tell it. |

Fuck Yeah! Yank Crime is the shit. Especially "Here Come the Rome Plows." I think at one time Mario Rubalcaba was the drummer for Hot Snakes. That dude has eight arms. He was also in Black Heart Procession and Clikatat Ikatowi. |

I (strongly) second Death From Above 1979. Although be warned that there is no guitar, only bass. Still awesome though.
And I'll add The White Stripes. Nothing electronic really going on there. Go with Elephant or Icky Thump, they're pretty straightforward rock albums. |

hey, i just registered here, i love the indie rock forum and always come and read this stuff but this post pushed me over the edge. I just had to become a member because the best old fashioned rock ive heard recently is not listed...ROSE HILL DRIVE. They are an unbelievable trio playing rock and roll with a sound that is all their own. I saw them open for The Who in california last summer and it was one of the best performances ive EVER seen. aside from that, i loved the wolfmother album for a few days but it just got boring after that. and i also am quite intrigued by battles' new record as well. i didnt think i liked the sound at first but it kept growing on me. goodbye for now
