Just got done listening to this 5 song EP by this Ohio based band Terribly Empty Pockets. Has anyone else heard it? I'm not quite sure how to define this album, but I'll give it a try.
It has a very indie feel to it; the light drumming, airy vocals, rhythmic guitar playing. However, what sets this apart is it's direction and focus. The arrangement is wonderful: every instrument is played in a manner that always seems like they pondered how best to present this one, singular idea in musical form for hours, and then recorded it. I'm no musical reviewer, so I suppose I'll just leave it at that and just tell you to download their album.
EDIT: Here's a quote from one of the guys that works at their label:
quote:
The Pockets sound a bit like early Talking Heads but more on par with some of the finest Brit/New Zealand pop of the late seventies and eighties. Think Wedding Present, The Bats and the very first Del Amitri record. -Bela Koe-Krompecher

Yes, that song 'Cleft Foot' when the drums and electric guitar kick in - well, that's a very nice moment and it makes me feel good all over. It's an edgy little song, sort of reminds me of the Cure's Lullaby.

It is a terribly catchy album, isn't it? My favorite song goes to the last song, When You Die. It's depressing looking at it lyrically, but the instruments transform it into a summertime lullabye.
