i found myself listening to more and more canadian artists over the years. it started with OLP back in the 90's and from there arcade fire, to wolf parade(and all their side projects.) to the dears and even recently to the islands.
i'd like to know some other good canadian music that i may not have heard or maybe didn't even know were canadian?
me being an american who used to make fun of canadians just because it was the funny thing to do when you were a kid no wants to become a canadian. haha.

This post reminds me of an article I read in 'The National Post', a Canadian national newspaper. Apparently, the artists in the Canadian 'scene' don't consider it a 'scene' because a lot of the artists don't even know each other. The article also talked about how 2006 was apparently a slow/bad year for Canadian music, even though they neglected to mention artists like Islands, and wrote off artists like Destroyer and Sunset Rubdown as 'indie phenomena without much mass appeal' (not a direct quote, but I think it's fairly close). On top of it all, they seemed to think that everyone loves Sloan.
Anyways, that doesn't have a whole lot to do with your question. I'm not sure what you've heard before, but here are some suggestions off the top of my head: The New Pornographers Destroyer AC Newman Malajube The Lovely Feathers Tokyo Police Club (haven't actually heard their entire EP, but have heard a lot of good things about them) Stars The Winks
I can't think of much more at the moment. Hopefully there are at least a few in there that you haven't heard/heard of.
one genre for you - post-rock. godspeed you black emperor (now a silver mt zion), explosions in the sky and many many more. i suggest you look into it at once.
I would like to suggest other great canadians or québécois artists:
- anything from Kid Koala (humoristic experimental hip-hop) - Sam Roberts - We were born in a flame (my favorite pop-rock album. How can it be so simple and so great at the same time?) - a band called Jay pea - A folk rock band I just discovered, kind of Wilcoesque - anything from Dumas - I could not mention this guy too much. Sometimes rock, pop, electronic, folkish, you have to listen to it. - I suggest other well known bands like arcade fire, Godspeed you black emperor, The Stills (first album please), Les Breastfeeders, Malajube...
