So, my wife will only listen to things like Dr.Dre, Metalica, Beach Boys, Sufjan Stevens, James Taylor. That kind of garbage. I'm wanting to get her interested in some good classical opera. I'm wondering if anyone has some great suggestions for some good "transitional" classical opera.

I honestly believe music is the best chance humanity has to reconcile their differences and find shared understanding and sympathy with each other. To that end, music is personal, and when self-described holier-than-thou 'indie' listeners stomach a few hours of what Pitchfork shoves down your throats, you suddenly believe that you're impervious to committing the heinously offensive act of dismissing a person's entire relationship with music simply because you know better. What you've actually done, in this effort, is alienate me from your entire selection of music, because I deeply and resolutely wouldn't want to associate any part of my listening habits with self-praising aural egotists like yourself.

THIS is the reason indie-music gets a bad name.

Someone has already pointed out that the poster made clear this original post was posted with tongue firmly in cheek.

It is no wonder that joewithajay missed this in their righteous rage at anyone who would so obstinately and brazenly dare to stand in the way of the new-to-me messianic project to bring the whole darn-tooting warring world together in song...

er...ironically enough, isn't that in fact the most aurally egotistical proposition I have read in a looong time!!!

As for ending with the bold "this is why indie has a bad name" shtick - I honestly didn't know that was the case - in fact, for the stereotypical indie snob who would seem to be the target of this misguided outburst, I would assume indie rock has managed to get itself far too much of a good name with the stereotypically slobbering idiot masses!!!

The Beach Boys?? I'm sorry, my friend - she's beyond saving. Next you'll be telling me she likes the Beatles.

The pretentious douchebaggery has gone viral! My sister made a CD for her friend that included Apologies to the Queen Mary, For Emma, most of Hissing Fauna and Funeral, about half of Dear Science and I Am a Bird Now (she changed her mind on that, I guess) and individual Portishead, Modest Mouse, Animal Collective and Sunset Rubdown tracks.

What a prodigious genius is this Pococurante! Nothing can please him.
