So many new indie albums come out on a weekly basis, it is difficult to keep up and figure out which one's are worthwhile. Metacritic cannot pick up them all, and many albums I see discussed on the boards are never picked up by Metacritic.
So, I thought it might be a good idea to have a rolling thread in which people can talk about the new music they pick up on a weekly basis and let the rest of us who may not be "in the know" know if it is worthwhile.
So, any takers? What did you download or purchase today?

Interesting topic, I think that's what this thread is for. But if mark doesn't want to close it, I suggest we move it to the General Music Discussion forums where it is better suited.

Thanks FKA for directing me to the other thread. I chose the Indie forums because it was directed towards indie acts that may not get the exposure of other genres.
I also had something different in mind. Not just a list of what you purchased, but maybe a brief description of the album after the first listen. Something that would help people identify what new releases might be of interest to them.
But, I will bow before the wisdom of the moderators.

Well, that one's only 143 pages long! But if people want to get more specific, about something more "indie", I'll leave this up and see where it goes. Just remember, even if it says indie, I usually mention the Beatles.

Hey, no problem TFoT. I was suggesting some things that I thought we could do. I understand if you want a thread with some substance and information then just what someone bought. Then again, I have no final say on the matter. Mark will check it out and he will do/or not do what he wants.
Your intentions are in the right place so I think it will be safe here. Hopefully people will contribute to your idea though.
EDIT: Whoops, I must have been typing this while mark was submitting his response (missed it by 2 minutes.)

Speaking of which, I'm planning on buying 3 albums tomorrow, which were released today (sept.11).
1. Animal Collective - Strawberry's Jamboree 2. The Go! Team - Proof of! Youth 3. Pinback - Fall of the Angels
I'm pretty excited. It's been a while since something has come out that I wanted to go buy the day it was released. If they turn out to be too expensive I'll probably buy them in reverse order. I really like Pinback.
---------------------------- There's an ember in the rafters and it's gonna burn this whole thing down.
I rarely pick up albums- new or reissues; indie or whatever- on Tuesdays anymore. It's Saturday afternoon when I choose from upcoming releases in the bins early(such as the Go Team last Saturday) or something that wasn't on the shelf early the previous Saturday (Oakley Hall will be one this Saturday).

I also miss the days when people would hear an album for the first time when they bought it. I also listen to streams and some times pick up advanced copies of albums. Everyone has been talking about Strawberry Jam for a long time know, I just heard it for the first time on Monday--I have now heard it about eight full times.
As for new albums, on Tuesday I picked up the newest one by Kanye West and MF Doom's re-issue of MM..Food. I really like the new one by West; consistent, energetic and creative. I had already heard Doom's, but it is just such a gem of an album. I really like both of those albums and people that like any kind of music should check them out.

I bought Graduation, Strawberry Jam, and Black Francis' Bluefinger this week - I'll speak to Bluefinger.
I think this album is great. I'm a bit biased because I love most of Frank Black's solo work, particularly Dog in the Sand. Despite the old moniker, this doesn't really resemble a Pixies album so much as a Catholics album with some fire and punk energy breathed back in. It's got all the Frank Black archetypes - surreal rockers, bittersweet drinking songs, surreal bittersweet drinking rockers - and it just sounds really good, especially the closing title track. I bet this will make my top 10 this year.

This is perfect, paradox. Just what I was looking for when I started this thread. I'll check out Bluefinger.

This isn't true anymore, is it? I just wanted to say I was excited to see there is a whole new bunch of forum moderators now. (So far I've seen FKA, RL, ericg75, and crazed - missed anyone else?) I like the contributions that all of you make (I've been reading here a long time, even well before I joined) and all the past mods seem to have disappeared (except for mark). I would make some comment about with great power comes great responsibility, but that's too cliched now. What the heck, abuse it freely.

Well I do have some say in what gets closed and what stays open but all of the moderators are going to attempt to work as a team. And thanks for your vote of confidence blueskyoas, that means a lot.
As for this thread, I have no proble keeping it open. Sometimes, before closing a thread, it is good to see where it goes first. This one has a followed a good route and I like that. There has already been some activity that the thread creater was purposely seeking.

I thought he was being sarcastic.. am I oblivious to this many things around the forums? How long have you been a mod for?

I too picked up Bluefinger. It's okay, but sort of hit-or-miss. It definitely doesn't rank with Black's best work - Pixies, the first three Catholics albums, and Teenager of the Year. Paradox is also right that it's not really worthy of the name change. It basically sounds like Black's earlier solo work.
