any fans?

I'd have to say, right now they are my favorite band. I just recently got their newest, The Spell, and it's pretty amazing. They finally incorporated the full band with their melancholy lyrics and music.

Their other albums are incredible too though, though I have a special fondness for 3.

I like The Black Heart Procession, but it's definitely not something I always want to hear. They've got some great songs - "We Always Knew", "Not Just Words", etc.

I think The Spell is OK, but not their best. I appreciate them trying to evolve, but some of the songs on there just don't make sense to me. I'm thinking of "The Fix" and "GPS" in particular. What's with the guitar in them? I probably like 3 the most (I think that's fairly common amoung BHP fans.)

What do you mean "what's with the guitar in them"? Are you wondering why they're using guitars? Personally, I really like those two songs, especially The Fix. And I think Not Just Words is one of the weaker songs on the album.

One thing about The Spell, it isn't nearly as lyrically strong as their other albums, I feel. The incredible sadness of the lyrics doesn't come across as quite so bleak, quite so honest on this album.

I think they're better at doing slow, dirge-like songs, but I think they did a pretty good job on the guitar-based songs. Though, my favorite songs are probably The Letter and The Waiter #5, two of the songs with the least guitar.

3 does completely rule, however, and it kicks The Spell's ass.

I'm a huge Black Heart fan. Three is also my favorite. I really like The Spell, although some of my friends who are also pretty big fans didn't seem to care for it. I liked the guitar parts on "The Fix" and "GPS" personally. They're kinda noodly which is cool with me. Do you guys like Three Mile Pilot? Their Another Desert Another Sea is a must for any Black Heart fan. You can easily see how Pall Jenkins transitioned from that into Black Heart.

I knew about Three Mile Pilot, but when I tried to find some stuff to download, I came up empty. I shall have to try again.

They just sound pretty cheesy to me - like they should be in some 70's action movie. They seem out of place.
