I second that.

You actually thirded it, since I mentioned it way up near the top of this thread.

So Joseph Arthur has been my favourite artist since high school. Has anyone heard his new album.

Oh and Waza, when you get to Animal Collective I think you should start with Here Comes The Indian Wink.

Yeah. I like it a lot; it's definitely poppier than Our Shadows Will Remain, and a lot less dark than anything in his catalog. I'm seeing him for the fourth time in less than two years this coming Saturday.

Yeah it's pretty good. "Too Much to Hide" is a great track.

I want to listen to a couple of Joseph Arthur's songs before I get to his album.

What are some of his best songs? Don't tell me too many.. if you do.. then I would have to buy the entire album before sampling it first. Wink

My girlfriend's become quite a fan of Joseph Arthur, and she asked me to throw together a mix for some interested coworkers. Not all my picks, but here's a pretty good overview:

Black Lexus
Let's Embrace
In The Sun
Slide Away
A Smile That Explodes
Even Tho
Eyes On My Back
Honey And The Moon
You Are Free
Speed Of Light
September Baby

I suposse I should also recommend my personal favorite ultra-catchy, guitar driven, indie rock album this year, The Thermals The Body, The Blood, The Machine.

I'm gonna check that one out before the year runs out.

At the very least, you might appreciate the anti-right wing lyrics. Sample:

"So give us what we're asking for, because God is with us, and our God's the richest. Power doesn't run on nothing, it runs on blood, and blood is easy to obtain."

Musically, I'd compare it to Ted Leo and the Pharmacists. Punk tinged power pop, with hook after hook.

Sounds interesting. I'm a bit split on Ted Leo. I absolutely love Tyranny of Distance, but I can't stand Hearts of Oak. Shake the Sheets is somewhere in between but gets bonus points for the lyrics.

I really like the Thermals, if not as much as Ted Leo. And RL, I'm with you - Hearts of Oak was pretty weak except for a few songs, but Shake the Sheets was solid and Tyranny of Distance was fantastic. Can't wait to see what he's going to put out in 2007. I'd put the Thermals close to his Shake the Sheets stuff.

I'm the opposite of you two. I love Tyranny of Distance and Hearts of Oak, and think Shake The Sheets is the (relavtively) weakest of the three. I do like The Thermals' latest and it will definitely make my top 20.

I just recently got My Morning Jacket's "Z" album.

Its AWESOME! Thanks to those who recommended it. I'm liking it more and more each time I listen to it. Great melodies, guitar riffs and hooks! Exactly what I was looking for.

Next, I think I'm going to try out The Thermal's "The Body, The Blood, The Machine." After that, perhaps a Band of Horses' album. Which one of their albums do you guys recommend for someone who has never listened to any of their songs before?

I'm pretty sure that there is only one Band of Horses release at least that I know of it's called "Everything All the Time" it came out this year and was a bit dissapointing but since you like MMJ like me it's right up your alley... If you haven't heard "Funeral" yet I'd check it out at the link at the bottom of this post. Also good choice with the Thermals new disc it's their best yet.

Since there's only one, I'd go with that one.

I'm with Waza on the just-bought-Z bandwagon. I grabbed it due to its popularity on here, and it has not disappointed.

... I do think you guys like Kid A a bit too much, though. Wink

That's Ok, even if I give it a 10. You must remember though, I give Amnesiac a 9.9. Cool

Oh, Kid A is a solid 8.3 or so. Amnesiac... eh, a 6.7. The Bends, 9.4 and OK Computer is a 9.5.

But in any case, they're hardly indie rock.

let's not get into the "is it indie rock?" conversation. Kid A is a ridiculous album. Radiohead's best, if you ask me.

I concur. Kid A is my favorite Radiohead record with OK Computer and Amnesiac close behind.
