I know, I know... this is a children's television show, but this is totally indie music-related.
Has anyone seen the current show Yo Gabba Gabba on Nick Jr? I hope I'm not the only one. The music will blow you away. I hear music similar to Junior Boys, Sunset Rubdown, Belle & Sebastian, Fujiya & Miyagi. You know, that pitchforkmedia sound. It appears they've had a few good bands like the Shins perform.
Seeing something so hip and made for children sure made my day.
As a father of a 2 yr old boy I can say I have watched the show A LOT. Initially, I thought I was doomed because my son loves the show(not sure why) but now I look forward to maybe as much as he does. I find myself sometimes humming the tunes intermittently during the day In any case I love the indie influence on the show. In one of the shows there is a song about going to bed, something like, "rest your head, it's time for bed". The vocals sound eerily similar to The National's Matt Berninger
"I had a secret meeting in the basement of my brain, It went the dull and wicked ordinary way"
I've seen some videos on Youtube and even Low performed a song about families. They've got some pretty good bands playing there. Although "Party in My Tummy" is pretty bad. But kind of funny.

i just sat and read the credits because i had to know who performed the song -- it's mark mothersbaugh!
I was homesick one day and watching the show. Wow, I was thoroughly entertained. The episode I watched didn't have any "indie" influence really. But heck was it awesome. The show accomplishes so much by dancing and singing about everything. Really, it moves so fast and introduces us to people in the field of dance, music, etc.
I love it and am looking forward to staying home again! Great for all ages as long as you're ready to move!
