Why so prolific? (Two LPs and an EP this year) Why did he stop being The Microphones? I just recent got really into "The Glow Pt. II," and I'm really liking "Lost Wisdom" lately. Any info apart from the little Wikipedia tells me?

Yes, Phil Elverum is pretty great. Not really sure anyone here can answer why he's so prolific though, some artists just are. That said, the songs on his second LP this year, Dawn, were written in a cabin in Norway five to six years ago. I believe he changed monikers from the Microphones to Mount Eerie because he was finished with the Microphones and ready for something new. Similar to when Jason Molina went from Songs: Ohia to Magnolia Electric Co, though not as significant change in sound as with Molina.

There's a pretty good fansite here, which has some good discography info but hasn't been updated for a couple years. If you haven't heard them yet, I'd recommend checking out the Microphones' albums It Was Hot We Stayed in the Water and Mount Eerie, and the first Mount Eerie album No Flashlight. Otherwise, if you're looking for more info Google is your friend. I'm sure you could find some interviews and articles pretty easily.

If you like Glow Pt. 2, then you should like It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water just as much. Its just as awesome as the former and very similar in style. And it has the song "The Glow" which is the best thing Phil Elvrum has recorded. Those two albums are both spectacular.

Yeah, that song is pretty much one of the most awesome things ever.

Double Cosign. "The Glow" is certainly better than the "Glow Pt. 2". I also love the two songs that surround "The Glow" - "Sand" and "Karl Blau", which is the name of one of Phil's buddies I believe.

I think it is safe to say that the Song Islands version of "The Moon" is one of the greatest things ever.

I hadn't heard of him before Lost Wisdom, but given that I love Julie Doiron so much I had to check it out and I absolutely adore it.

What are you waiting for, go get "The Glow, pt. 2" and "It Was Hot, We Stayed in the Water" it's MILLION times better.
