Akron/Family - This band deserves to all the love in the world. They're work on the Angels of Light/Akron split is some of the best music I have heard in ages. Pure unadulterated energy. I love it.
I really enjoyed the band's self titled CD on Young God. I went to see them play live at the very beginning of this year and it sounded like a completely different band. Sometimes this can be good, but in their case they sounded like some jam band. They grooved on some solo in a manner that was extremely reminiscent of bands like Phish, Widespread Panic, Grateful Dead, etc. I really really hope this isn't the direction they intend to go, as I surely won't follow.
Sufjan Stevens - I'll admit first off that I'm putting this because I feel that he is the best artist that is still alive and kicking... and many people don't. So this is just me being a fanboy. Sue me.
Damien Rice - One of the better singer-songwriters. I don't see him getting much credit.
Dinosaur Jr. - Lou Barlow is a genius. They had no business booting him.
Lou Barlow - Speak of the devil...
Howe Gelb - 'Sno Angel Like You is fabulous. Another guy that I don't see getting the buzz he deserves.
Jon Brion - Great producer, and his own tracks are pretty damn good, too. Check out the soundtrack to Eternal Sunshine and I Heart Huckabees.
Uncle Tupelo - Kinda indie, not really. If you like Wilco - in fact, if you like any indie pop since 1990 - you owe it to your Uncle.
Weezer - They get too much shit. Give Rivers Cuomo a break. I'll admit that Make Believe isn't up to their standard, but Pinkerton is one of the 10 best records of the 1990s. F@*! Rolling Stone.

Granfaloon Bus These guys put out several albums between the mid-90s and 2002 (?). All of them that I've heard are very good. I'd recommend "Sleeping Car (Schalefwagen)" to anyone who likes alt-country-type stuff.
Absolutely! They're huge down under, but can't catch of whiff of success in the US. Sad, considering that Jet (who started out playing You Am I covers) sold a boatload over here...

The National's Alligator is just phenomenal. I didn't buy it until early this year, but it seems like everyone should have been falling all over themselves in praise of this record when it first came out. It feels fresh everytime I play it. In my opinion, Alligator is a notch above some other good albums that got way too much hype (Apologies to the Queen Mary, I am looking in your direction.)

Reminds me of another band called The Frames, really and all over the place when it comes to their us of acoustic or electric. At least 5 albums deep and most people in the US dont know of them, which is odd cause it sounds like they'd be big.
Yea, I think if someone put them on the radio, they'd be pretty big in the US. They have that Coldplay appeal, except less annoying. I have their newest album released two years ago, I think it was O.k. Handful of great tunes, but some really bland ones too.
I would add Dr. Dog, Have Her Home by Ten, and Cass Mccombs to the currently underrated bands.
