Any opinions on the #2 album of the year?

I've heard a few tracks, and despite having no prior experience with Lightning Bolt (or "noise" music in general, for that matter), I'm definetly interested, and I'll probably buy it once I get a bit of money together.

I've tried a lot of it and wasted a lot of time on repeated listens, but I cannot stand any kind of noise music. I listened to Wonderful Rainbow or whatever their first one was called and couldn't stand it. Noise just seems to me like the classic example of a genre that people profess to like because they know that no casual music fan would ever touch it.

I think this is their fourth album, and they have fans around here. I bought Wonderful Rainbow and played it at least five times. That's why I'm not getting this one. Cool Then again, I didn't even want the new Franz or BSS. Red Face

I've heard one track from it, and it's interesting enough to buy.

I'd say that I..like noise music in general, so long as they don't forget they're writing a *song*, and they understand that the goal of writing music is to make it sound good, not to just make something impenetrable for hipsters to fawn over.

Not really my style, but it's getting great reviews, and I like what I've heard... not at the top of my list, but i'm definitely interested.

I loved Wonderful Rainbow, this new one not so much- I think I posted elsewhere here that I feel they're definitely retreading the same ground, and the hooks this time aren't as good.

i want to bump this and tell y'all that i adore lightning bolt records, but this new one is really bad, nowhere near "92" caliber

"dead cowboy" is compltetely outstanding, and then the two tracks after it are pretty nice, but the rest is really, really boring

i wrote a review, you can read it here i guess

This must be a matter of taste but I really can't stand this album or anything of this genre. I don't get it. What are you doing when you're listening to this? I keep waiting for a critic to trash this album so its rating drops. As it stands, metacritic will have it ranked fourth this year, above "Black Sheep Boy," "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning," "Thunder, Lightning, Strike," "CYHSY," etc. To me, that's a joke.

it's no joke that wonderful rainbow is a fantastic album, as far as i'm concerned. i don't know if you've seen the dvd on lightning bolt, both those guys can play EXTREMELY well. the drummer has this tiny drumset, and i've never seen a guy who can do more with so little. not even the drummer from deerhoof (who also plays with a small set and does a lot of cool stuff) can do what the lightning bolt drummer does. and the bassist? that guy uses two bass strings and two guitar strings, and he plays them both at the same time. he's ridiculous.

don't get me wrong, i understand that it's not everybody's cup of tea (it's not even mine), but after seeing those guys play in their dvd and seeing how they create their sound, i wouldn't dare say that they can't play. they are extremely talented.

I recently bought Wonderful Rainbow and it has become one of my favorites. I've heard some tracks from Hypermagic Mountain and based on Wonderful Rainbow I'd say both are definately worth buying.
