I think it's possibly even better than the first Atlas Sound album. I've listened to it several times through and I just can't get enough of it.

I didn't find anything redeeming in the first album. I bit too disco for my tastes. Is this "more of the same but better", or does he take it in a different direction.

I still can't believe this is the same guy from Deerhunter.

I didn't really care for the first albums by either Deerhunter or Atlas Sounds, but I loved Microcastle/Weird Era and I feel like this album sounds pretty similar to that one, even a bit like Sung Tongs era Animal Collective. It's definitely pop music, but it stretches itself in really strange ways, going weird places throughout the songs. I'm going to give it a few more listens today, but I was nothing but pleased with my first listens of it yesterday.

None of that makes a bit of sense to me. I can't imagine what you thought sounded disco on the first one. And it sounds a lot like Deerhunter to me. Its pretty much the same singing style with slightly different instrumentation. But to answer your question, this one is a good bit less ambient. There's not near as much of the sonic soundscape stuff from the first album. This one mixes up styles and genres a good more as well. There's a couple of Person Pitch sounding tunes, an absolutely awesome Stereolab homage with Laetitia Sadier singing. There's still plenty of the bedroom guitar strumming run through a ton of effects and fuzzed out vocals. I'm loving it. "Shelia" is freaking amazing. One of my favorite songs of the year.

Your description of the album is spot on, hophead. I was trying to explain the Animal Collective style-stuff I was hearing, but really, the Person Pitch reference much better suits it than what I had said.

And yeah, "Shelia" is an amazing tune.

Agreed. It's my favorite track off of the album.

One thing I'm not crazy about is how the album ends. "Logos" is a great song, but it just sort of akwardly fades out. It doesn't feel like a proper way at all to end an album. And this is from a guy who really, really knows how to end an album. Something tells me that with this being a leak it may not be how they're planning it officially.

This is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I first heard the album. It's a terrific album, really, but it's just not the way you end it. I doubt this is the way it's supposed to finish.

Well, it's definitely the correct tracklisting, so the only thing I could think of that would be different is the final master recording.

But, I don't think it is going to be different - I don't see anything wrong with the way the album ends. Y'all are splittin' hairs.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I suppose I'll probably warm up to it the more I listen to it.
