Nice list BContrat. All except the gang of four song, which I haven't heard. But if it's as Bad-ass as Debaser, I'm going to check it out right now.

I recently made a mixtape for the road, and I think I unconsciously picked songs that make me feel bad-ass when I'm driving. You can download/check it out at the link. Let me know what you think of the mix/tracks!

Oh, and of the tracks on the mixtape, I'd have to say the Cramps' "New Kind of Kick" and Jesus & Mary Chain's "Birthday" are most bad-ass.

"Yeah, I'm a mean motherfucker now, but I once was coooooool/Yeah, I'm a bad motherfucker now, but I once was cooooool..." (From "Birthday")

When talking of songs that are "badass" it's impossible to go without naming "Trampled Under Foot" by Zep. I dare you to defy its groove.

More recently, Les Savy Fav has their fair share of badass-ness. Notably "The Sweat Descends", the chorus and the guitar are crazy. And DFA1979 is composed mostly of badass songs, God rest the band's soul.

I think Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" deserves mention.

Of the songs that have been mentioned, I'm still sticking with The Stooges' "Search And Destroy". You can't get more bad-ass than "I'm a street walkin' cheetah with a heart full of napalm"

Eh, "Search And Destroy" is great, but if we're going to talk about bad-ass in the context of the Stooges, I'd go with all of Funhouse, which is pretty much the most bad-ass album of all time. It's what rock n roll was supposed to be. I'll take "Loose" over "Search And Destroy" any day... the Stooges that made Funhouse and the Stooges that made Raw Power were essentially two different bands; the former were by far more bad-ass.

Whoa! Bad-ass symphony indeed! Here's a few other 'classical' works for the bad-ass list.

Dvorak- Symphony no. 9 "To the New World"
Mussorgsky- St. James' Night on Bald Mountain
Mozart- Requiem
Verdi- Requiem
Bach- Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, countless other pieces because Bach rules all...
Berio- Sinfonia (especially mvt 3)
Brahms- Song of Fate
Schoenberg- Violin Concerto
Bartok- Quartet no. 5, final movement
Husa- Quartet no.3 and Apotheosis of this Earth
Reich- It's Gonna Rain
Gorecki- Symphony no. 2 "Copernican"

The top of the heap has to be Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." Not only does it sound bad-ass, but at its premiere a riot broke out over whether or not it was music. That's right- classical fans beating each other to a pulp, police invading the hall... at a ballet! First mosh pit ever.

Clark- Herzog (Badass electronica)
The Drones- I Looked Down The Line And Wondered
Ellen Allien & Apparat- Metric
Husker Du- Something I Learned Today
Jesus Lizard- Monkey Trick
Mission Of Burma- Academy Fight Song, 2wice
Stooges- Funhouse, side one
Captain Beefheart- Low Yo Yo Stuff
The Leather Nun- Gimme Gimme Gimme (A Man After Midnight)

I dunno, man. Just thinking about those two Iggys meeting each other make my head want to explode. I can't compare 'em like that - the Stooges are in their own orbit. T.V. Eye and Dirt are probably my top 2 favorite Stooges songs, but in the context of this thread I think I gotta side with Ericg. What could be more badass than that opening line, plus your speakers are about to fall apart with Iggy's out of control mixing. Damn. I gotta listen to that stuff again.

I'm just surprised that (by memory) I'm the only one to mention McLusky... almost all of "Does Dallas" is totally badass to the max.

Actually, I would have totally said "Lightsabre Cocksucking Blues"...but a lot of the others work pretty well too.

I mention them a lot, but no, I mentioned some other spazz songs in this thread. Too bad I didn't mention "Tomorrow Never Knows" or "The Ballad of John and Yoko"!

These two songs should be required listening when looking up the definition of "bad-ass songs"--or maybe they should be required listening for everybody?

Good topic! How about...

That's When I Reach For My Revolver - Mission Of Burma
Reptilia - The Strokes
I Can't Get No Satisfaction - The Rolling Stones
C'mon C'mon - The Von Bondies
Kill All Hippies - Primal Scream "You got the money, I got the soul!"

Ah Mclusky! Good call, vitunkrapula. Although, I'd go with "To Hell With Good Intentions" because the first line is amazing:

"My love is bigger than your love!"

Jesus & Mary Chain - Snakedriver
Autolux - Blanket
The Birthday Party - Sunnys Burning ("Hands up, who wants to die?!")

And I'm not being ironic here, but I think I have to add R. Kelly's "The Zoo." No one else could pull off lines like "Girl, I Got You So Wet/It's Like A Rain Forest/Like Jurassic Park/Except I'm Your Sex-A-Saurus, Baby," and a chorus that starts with "Ooo-ooo-ooo-ooo aaa-aaa-aaa-aaa" like a horny monkey.
