What have been your favorite albums of the past couple months? Anything noteworthy? I've resorted to pulling out my old stuff and my record collection to ease the boredom... This is what I've been listening to recently: The Black Keys "thickfreakness" and "Rubber Factory" Autolux "Future Perfect" Peaches "Fatherfucker" (I'm really anticipating her new album) The Velvet Underground (their self-titled) Lou Reed "Transformer" some MC5, Frank Zappa, etc. Any suggestions would be helpful.....
I've mentioned them on here before but never received a response or feedback. Is there anything better than finding something new and embracing it instantly? Maybe, just maybe, pizza.

You probably want new albums, but I've been listening to lots of old stuff too. Among them are:
Repeat When Necessary by Dave Edmunds Country Life by Roxy Music Dylan's '60s Albums Get Happy!!! by Elvis Costello and the Attractions The Undertones Pink Flag by Wire All the Beatles Albums
My daughter has been playing all the eels albums too, so I've been hearing those.

I bought The Raconteurs the other day...it was ok, nothing amazing. I downloaded Rather Ripped...wasn't impressed with it. That's how it's been going lately - I can't seem to find anything I can get really excited about.
Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone? - Unicorns Enjoy Your Rabbit - Sufjan Stevens The Sunset Tree - Mountain Goats Blinking Lights And Other Revelations - Eels Monkey Vs. Shark - Thee More Shallows Being There - Wilco
Anything by Apples In Stereo, Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Half-Handed Cloud
i've recently just been alternating between four little kicks i'm on (depending on my mood):
my electronic kick:
Manitoba - Up in Flames Thom Yorke - The Eraser Aphex Twin - The Richard D James Album Liars - They Were Wrong So We Drowned
My guitar rock / relatively new (past 10 years) kick:
Spoon - Gimmie Fiction (call me a sap, but i could listen to "I summon you" over and over again for hours on end)
Folk Implosion - Dare to be Suprised (i don't know why i love this album so much...but i always come back to it for some reason. and i'm not even a huge Lou Barlow fan--except for Sebadoh's Harmacy, which is really good).
my older stuff kick:
Captain Beefheart - Trout Mask Replica (this is the only album i have of theirs....i really like how disoriented and cabaret-ish it sounds (i've always been a big fan of tom waits)....can anyone suggest any other captain beefheart albums i should check out?)
Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat (IMO, this album is better than their self-titled album)

Agreed 100% I mean not that the self-titled and self-titled with Nico isn't amazing but WL/WH is a defining statement and Sister Ray sounds as fresh as I imagine it did 30 years ago. Mindblowing.
I've mostly been listening to the Talking Heads lately and they're ( as I was expecting) amazing. Remain in Light, More Songs About Buildings and Food, 77, Speaking in Tongues, Stop Making Sense, and The Name of this Band is Talking Heads. The last one is particularly amazing, I mean live Talking Heads at the height of their talent with renditions of their best songs in their best versions, what is not to swoon over?
I'm assuming that you've watched the movie Stop Making Sense. That is (psycho) killer! Also check out Fear of Music because along with Remain in Light, I believe it's my fave Heads album.

talking heads is one of my favorites of all time. and they have such an interesting and amazing development from really poppy (talking heads '77, more songs about buildings and food, etc) into new rhythms and sounds (speaking in tongues, remain in light, etc). obviously, this change had a big influence from brian eno, whom i also love. i mean, you really have a band that has almost two era's.
i'm with mark f on Fear of Music. It's got an amazing song in "life during wartime," but it's also got the song "Mind," which is my favorite talking heads song of all time.

Ah I knew I forgot something. Uch how could I forget that album? Cities, Life During Wartime, Air, Heaven, Mind, Electric Guitar, wow besides Remain in Light it may be their best album. And no I haven't seen the movie except in parts. The Once in a Lifetime on the CD is the best I've heard. And it's cool the way he performs Psycho Killer with the boombox. That's on my to get list.
Oh yeah. Byrne's Dancing with the Lamp and the Big Suit stuff usually make me cry, not only because it's so perfect, but because the Stop Making Sense Tour was the last concert I took my mom too.
