Really? I think the last two songs are two of the best. Anyway, this is guaranteed top 5 stuff for me. Love this album.

I sort of agree. I think the next 3 tracks after "Sleeper Hold" are the weakest on the album. And actually "Errand Boy" and "Impossible Bouquet" are just ambient/noise pieces. "Here Should Be My Home" isn't that great, and bookended with the two instrumentals it definitely creates a lull in the album.

But I also agree with you that the last two tracks are great and are on par with the amazing first 7 songs.

I actually don't prefer noise music, but after three listenings I can say it's becoming interesting. It is interesting to observe my affective responses to what they are trying to express. Since english is not my native language I don't get them lyricaly but musicaly they have something to offer ... But still - not my top ten stuff this year.

oh, and this is kind of funny:

So everyone's opinion is so sacred, they all have such equal value, that music comes to mean absolutely fucking nothing at all. Dear God how I hate that shit.

So I can put on a Spiderman costume, clip a microphone to my balls, curl over and roll down a hill in a ball sucking my own dick, then publish whatever results as "music."

NO.

I don't consider No Age noise rock, or noise, or anything of that nature. They use some distortion on pop music... I agree that they don't warrant all this discussion. But, I think they might be so polarizing because they are so close to being pop music that the distortion either taints the music or makes it even more appealing. No Age functions in the same way that Magnetic Fields' Distortion does; HEALTH as well.

I don't know... my ears place HEALTH outside the realm of pop and more in the realm of noise. But I do agree with your assessment of No Age.

Yeah, I suppose that HEALTH probably wouldn't be on the pop side; they don't usually use traditional song structures or really have a chorus/verse at all as far as I can tell (vocals being mixed so deep within the music it's pretty tough to say).

The reason people seem to not enjoy new things is that they don't take the time to find out how to enjoy them properly and give them a fair shot.

P.S. Every band that has been mentioned so far has plenty of melody in each track but they bury them using various effects and techniques... that's part of the fun. Picking out buried sections makes the music a lot more interactive.

JGlass, this argument strikes me as a little patronizing. The implication is that this sort of music isn't enjoyable for neophytes; that it takes experience and know-how. I understand the concept of digging through a song through repeated listens to find new things, but I find with this record that I have to dig through the distortion and noise to find very basic or even non-existent melodies and progressions.

I'm definitely not attacking you personally, just so you know.
