It's an excellent album and all, but I don't know what to make of this... (goathouse's post)

Drum's Not Dead was amazing, but this is completely different, but so far I think I like it. It's definitely gonna be a grower for me.

It's got echoes of Joy Division in it, to my ears. It's the color of red clay and soil and bloody earth. Clips from The Blair Witch project might serve as suitable videos for some of these songs.

huh? When did liars ever put out a self titled album?

As far as I know, these are their full lengths (from AMG):

2001 - They threw us all in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top

2004 - They Were Wrong, So we Drowned (underrated, IMO)

2006 - Drum's Not Dead

What gives?

Um....don't feel out of the loop. Their album comes out in AUGUST 2007.

Apparently, you're behind now, if you don't download leaks 3 months in advance or more!!

The new album is pretty stellar. Likely to place high on my EOY list.

It's been a grower for me. The more I listen to it the more I like it. No matter what I still don't think it's as good as Drum's Not Dead. It lacks continuity, but as a collection of songs it is quite good.

I will patiently wait until the official release. That be the good way to go I reckon. Which is killing me cause I'm a big fan, and all this lukewarm chatter re the album is worrying me.

Oh, could I feel as I have felt, or be what I have been,
Or weep as I could once have wept, o'er many a vanished scene;
As springs in deserts found seem sweet, all brackish though they be,
So, midst the withered waste of life, those tears would flow to me.

I'm a die hard liars fan so when I heard this album leaked I jumped all over it. Needless to say when I first heard it, especially the second song, I was shocked and was pretty much in denial that this was liars. Horseshoes and Freak Out in particular are very different than anything they have ever released. It has grown on me, but it is in no way as good as Drum's Not Dead. Which would be near impossible considering I think Drum's Not Dead the best album of pretty much the new millenium, No j/k. But to me this seems very much a stab at mainstream success, or at least a wider audience, which goes along with what they've been saying in interviews. Still its a good album and worth picking up- even if I wish they had gone into wierder territory.

Who? The Fucking Liars that's who.

I loved their first two albums. Thought Drum's Not Dead had some excellent songs on it but overall wasn't anything incredibly stellar. Haven't gotten a chance to listen to the new album, but I'll report back once I do.

I relistened to DND and I appreciate it more now (I'm still young in my indie cred... only 2 or 3 years) but I still think it's overrated and my least fav album of theirs

Question for a relative Liars noob. What is their most "accessible" record to start off with? I tried starting with Drums Not Dead and really couldn't get into it. I feel immensely unhip/uncool/retarded/hopeless for thinking this, however. Considering I like albums with strong melodies, what is the best starting point?

This is no mainstream album. Let's just get that out of the way.

They don't make pop albums.
